Under general supervision, the medical sales specialist is responsible for driving growth to existing and prospective customers in the segments of responsibility; through both direct sales and in collaboration with Area VP, District Managers, and Branches. This position is directly accountable for account management, product management, market growth, and development to achieve business and sales goals and objectives in the assigned geography by performing the following.

  • Airgas associates are expected to act with care, adapt to our environment and engage to trust and grow - core tenets within the Be, Act, Engage framework of employee performance.

  • Drives assigned segment gas and equipment sales within the assigned geography through identification of key growth markets, products, and associated customers and targets.

  • Responsible for the development and execution of a strategy to capture sales growth.

  • Maintains a solid working relationship with VP, District and Branch Managers and other Specialists in the Region.

  • Provides customers with the gases and gas controls, technical support, training, and service for all medical, life sciences applications.

  • Establishes a process for continuous and accurate market data collection for customer sales, service needs, market trends, and competitor activities.

  • Utilizes all necessary sales and marketing literature to promote Airgas initiatives that are identified as part of the region's growth strategy.

  • Maintains and upgrades selling skills and technical/product knowledge through required training and self directed research and learning.

  • Completes and maintains weekly/monthly sales-related business management, including but not limited to SalesForce.com, call reports, and month-end reports.

  • Acknowledges and responds to e-mail and phone calls with all internal and external customers in a timely manner.

  • May be requested to participate in special projects relating to pricing, inventory, or sales to align the needs of the customer with the direction and policy of Airgas.

  • Participates in product knowledge and vendor training to present new products to customers to increase their awareness of our market segments.

  • All employees are expected to perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications but not specifically described.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, engineering or related degree field preferred. In lieu of degree, consideration for up to four years of additional related experience may be accepted.

  • A minimum of four years of prior sales experience to include proven experience and success in solution-selling concepts and a demonstrated history of managing medical and life science customers.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and appropriate level of auto insurance coverage.

  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet management expectations.

  • Must interact professionally across all organizational levels and possess excellent written, oral communication, listening, and presentation skills.

  • Proven success in consultative selling, including the ability to perform customer segmentation, prioritize high-value targets, and apply knowledge of customer business, industry, and macro/microeconomic trends to identify new opportunities.

  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience and medical gas & equipment sales experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with medical gas applications, life science, specialty gases and products preferred.

  • Computer Skills: Must have proficient computer skills using Google systems and CRM systems, specifically Salesforce preferred.

  • Highly organized, analytical, and self-motivated self-starter who operates with urgency, can work independently, and possesses the ability to solve complex, practical problems in non-standardized situations.

  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
