Geomorph Civil Project Manager

McMillen Inc. is looking for a Geomorph Civil Project Manager with 10+ years of experience leading complex, multidisciplinary projects in eco-hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, and water resources engineering. This role offers the opportunity to manage innovative projects involving hydropower, dam modification, and river system restoration while integrating engineering, geomorphic, and ecological principles to deliver sustainable outcomes. The ideal candidate is a technically driven leader who excels in client engagement, project management, and mentoring teams, with a strong background in hydraulic modeling, geomorphic assessment, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams delivering eco-hydraulic, geomorphic, and civil engineering projects for hydropower, dam modification, and water-resource systems.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget; serve as primary client and agency point of contact during FERC relicensing, CEQA/NEPA, and design phases.
  • Oversee 2D hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and instream flow modeling to evaluate infrastructure operations, channel response, and environmental performance.
  • Guide integration of hydrology, geomorphology, and ecology into technical studies and adaptive management strategies.
  • Provide QA/QC on technical deliverables, ensuring methodological consistency and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead preparation of technical reports, modeling appendices, and environmental permitting documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and scientists in modeling, technical writing, and professional development.
  • Contribute to proposal development, client presentations, and business growth initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in civil, water resources, or geomorphology-focused engineering.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects involving hydropower, dam safety or modification, river restoration, or watershed management.
  • Strong understanding of fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, and sediment transport processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with 2D hydraulic and sediment transport modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, RiverFlow2D).
  • Advanced skills in GIS-based terrain and spatial analysis (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS); familiarity with Python or R for data analysis preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills, including scope, schedule, and budget control.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports, regulatory documentation, and client presentations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing junior staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred (Hydrology, Fluvial Geomorphology, or Water Resources focus).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.

Compensation Package:

  • Pay Range: $111,231 - $144,005 (DOE)
  • Benefits: McMillen provides a full Benefits Program consisting of Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, FSA, EAP, 401(k) and match, 9 Paid Holidays, generous PTO, opportunity for Stock Ownership and Wellness Reimbursement.
