Position Summary:

The Electronics Technician I provides operational and maintenance support for the Mountain Home Range Complex in Idaho, which includes the Saylor Creek and Juniper Butte Bombing and Gunnery (B&G) Ranges. This entry-level position assists in maintaining, repairing, and operating complex electronic systems that support U.S. Air Force training missions, including scoring, telemetry, and communication equipment.

Working under supervision, the technician ensures systems and facilities remain safe, reliable, and mission-ready in accordance with AFMAN 13-212V1, Air Combat Command (ACC) guidance, and the contract's Statement of Work (SOW).

Primary Responsibilities:

Operations Support




  • Assist with daily setup, operation, and monitoring of range electronics such as JAWSS, WISS, IRSSS, LESM, LSVRS, and related data collection systems.





  • Conduct pre- and post-operation checks on equipment, ensuring calibration, signal integrity, and readiness.





  • Support Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) operations, laser scoring, and low-angle strafe systems.





  • Operate and maintain range communications including URC-200/300 radios, LMR base stations, and handheld devices.





  • Support range activities by coordinating with Range Control and maintaining real-time communication links during live and simulated missions.




Maintenance and Repair




  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs), functional tests, and minor repairs on radar, RF, optical, and telemetry systems.





  • Replace or adjust defective components under supervision; escalate complex issues to higher-level technicians.





  • Maintain building systems including power generators, lighting, HVAC, and network connections at range facilities.





  • Inspect and maintain target systems, camera towers, and perimeter lighting to ensure safety and operability.





  • Support tower inspections and antenna alignment in accordance with OSHA 1910.268 telecommunications standards.




Documentation and Reporting




  • Record maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment status updates in the Equipment Status Reporting (ESR) system.





  • Assist with maintaining technical documentation, calibration records, and configuration logs.





  • Support inventory management for repair parts, consumables, and range materials.




Safety and Environmental Compliance




  • Follow all safety and environmental protection requirements, including National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards during fire season.





  • Support initial firefighting and emergency response procedures when operating in field environments.





  • Maintain familiarity with hazardous materials (HAZMAT) handling, spill prevention, and environmental reporting procedures.




Required Qualifications:




  • High school diploma or equivalent.





  • Two (2) or more years of experience in electronic or electromechanical maintenance or operation.





  • Familiarity with radar, RF, telemetry, or instrumentation systems.





  • Basic understanding of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).





  • Ability to read and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical orders (TOs).





  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in austere conditions.





  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.




Preferred Qualifications:




  • Department of Labor Electronics Technician I certification or Air Force 3-level equivalent experience.





  • Prior experience supporting DoD range operations or similar electronic maintenance environments.





  • Knowledge of range systems such as JAWSS, WISS, IRSSS, RIIS, and LESM.





  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking software.





  • Experience working with fiber optics, RF transmission, and data communications equipment.





  • Basic knowledge of fire and environmental safety protocols under Air Force or federal standards.




Work Environment:




  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at Saylor Creek and Juniper Butte Ranges.





  • Exposure to desert weather conditions, high noise levels, and electromagnetic/radar environments.





  • May require shift work, nights, weekends, and occasional travel to other range or test sites.





  • Coordination with Air Force, contractor, and government personnel on daily range operations.
