Position Summary

The Terminal Technology Intern will support the Cooper/Ports America IT team in maintaining and improving technology operations at a marine terminal. This internship offers hands-on experience with critical systems that keep terminal operations running efficiently, including network infrastructure, operational applications, and end-user technology. The intern will work closely with experienced IT professionals to troubleshoot issues, assist with ongoing projects, and gain insight into the role of technology within the maritime logistics industry.

Key Responsibilities



  • Assist with the maintenance and troubleshooting of terminal operational applications (e.g., Terminal Operating Systems, OCR systems, Gate Management, and RFID systems).
  • Support the configuration and troubleshooting of local and wide area networks under supervision.
  • Provide basic technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices.
  • Participate in the monitoring and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, and wireless networks.
  • Document IT procedures, configurations, and asset inventory updates.
  • Collaborate with team members and vendors on the installation and support of hardware and software systems.
  • Assist in logging, tracking, and resolving IT Service Desk incidents.
  • Contribute to local IT projects that enhance system reliability and user experience.
  • Follow established IT and safety policies to ensure secure and compliant technology operations.
  • Comply with Corporate Safety and IT policies and procedures.


Qualifications



  • Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of Windows operating systems and general networking concepts.
  • Strong interest in learning about enterprise technology environments, especially in logistics or transportation industries.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies in a practical setting.

Working Conditions



  • Office and marine terminal environment.
  • May involve occasional movement of computer or network equipment (up to 50 lbs. with assistance), climb stairs in buildings that are not elevator equipped.
  • Must be able to safely navigate terminal and warehouse areas.
  • Valid driver's license required; eligibility to obtain a TWIC credential preferred.
  • Internship schedule may include flexibility to support key operational activities.
  • Ability to travel between 30-50% of the time to support remote sites up to an hour and a half away.
