Position Highlights

The Healthcare Simulation Educator II/Medical Education Professional II will assist in the Interprofessional Clinical and Professional Skills Center (ICaPS). Reporting to the Healthcare Simulation Education III, the Healthcare Simulation Educator II/Medical Education Professional II will perform professional-level work supporting the Standardized Patient (SP) Program within U of A Health Sciences. The role will require collaboration with curriculum directors and coordinators, faculty, and staff within the College of Medicine and College of Nursing and lead several department examinations. In addition work with various other colleges within the University of Arizona Health Science will be required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Train Standardized Patients (SPs) to accurately portray cases and to use techniques to improve the authenticity of SP portrayals.
  • Teach SPs to portray abnormal physical exam findings accurately.
  • Work with faculty to ensure event information and SP case training information is accurate. Specific activities include, but are not limited to, Genetics, Nutrition, College of Nursing, College of Medicine (COM) Clerkship Exams, and COM 2nd and 3rd Year Examinations.
  • Lead Nutrition, Psychiatry and Neurology Clerkship examinations/OSCEs including event/activity management - Assist with event scheduling (pre/post event form completion), supervise set-up, event, and take down, SP sign-in, troubleshoot, etc.
  • Case Development - Assist with scenario development and the development of training materials to support SP training.
  • Develop relationships with assigned UAHS colleges, including event planning, SP assignment, and supervision of SP-based curricular activities and exams. This position will mainly work with the College of Nursing and the College of Medicine.
  • Train SPs how to give verbal and written feedback to all learners.
  • Assess ongoing quality assurance of SPs written and verbal feedback.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with physicians, doctors of nursing practice, nurses, midwives, staff, and students independently.
  • Must be able to manage several projects concurrently and prioritize tasks.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in working with highly confidential and sensitive matters.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One year experience working with Standardized Patients in Health Professions setting.
