Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Lead Quality Technician to be based out of Harvey, Illinois. The job will be 3rd shift (11pm - 7am, M-F, occasional Saturdays). Reporting to the Quality Manager, this person will be responsible for performing product inspections using various types of measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometer, and gauges. This person will also be responsible for preparing reports to document their findings, containing non-conforming material on their shift, and mentoring operators on proper inspections and customer specifications as necessary.

The ideal candidate will have a 5 - 7 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an Applied Science is preferred. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings and specifications and apply company and customer procedures, specifications, and standards to ensure product compliance.
  • Prepare job information including documents, gauges, quality history, etc. for production teams prior to the start of job setups.
  • Perform and monitor SPC on key characteristics as defined by customers and internal leadership teams.
  • Perform visual and mechanical inspection of manufactured parts, tooling, and fixtures to ensure final product conformance to customer specifications.
  • Initiate non-conformance reports on all parts and assemblies that are not to specification.
  • Initiate corrective action requests when conditions are adverse to quality.
  • Complete, inspect and distribute all quality records and documents.
  • Maintain job files for production run data, first piece approvals, maintenance logs, visual alerts, etc.
  • Calibrate gauging and maintain calibration records for gauges and other equipment.
  • Assist in training new production personnel in gauges, gauging techniques, equipment, SPC, data collection, and Metal Flow quality policies and procedures.
  • Participate in creating and maintaining a neat, organized, and safe work environment consistent with company standards.
  • Function as a contributing member of the Quality department team.

What you'll bring:



  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Applied Science is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of production environment gauging.
  • Proficient with a variety of precision measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, comparators, height gauges, and custom fixtures.
  • Understanding of and ability to read/interpret blueprints and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of key elements of SPC and how to apply/interpret data.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access and Power Point).
  • Ability to communicate and make presentations and analyze data.

Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore Immersion Program
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's Business System through Lean Daily Management and the Strategy Deployment Process.
  • Gain an understanding of your team and procedures your team uses.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Perform Quality inspections per the minimum requirements per shift.
  • Have full understanding of inspection requirements by product.
  • Assist in training operators on using gauges and utilizing product and customer specifications when performing inspections.
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance and engineering to trouble shoot issues with mill operators on the production floor.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Perform gauge calibrations, set up testing equipment, and notify Quality Management of any out of calibration equipment.
  • Log, contain, and communicate all rejected material on 3rd shift.
  • Inspect and signoff on all rework activities that occur on 3rd shift.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $55,680 - $76,560. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
