This role is targeted to begin in early December and will run through the Spring 2026 semester, with potential to extend into the Summer 2026.

The Public Policy Intern will work with the Duke Energy Public Policy team and contribute to overall Federal Affairs priorities.

  • The Duke Energy Federal Affairs Team ensures that the company's interests are represented at the national level by engaging with the legislative and regulatory processes. This position will support the team in monitoring and analyzing federal activity, preparing presentations and reports, and evaluating energy policy relevant to the company.

  • The Policy team's mission is to drive the company's public policy agenda and shape a constructive policy landscape that moves our business forward through external and internal engagement and thought leadership.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

  • Currently enrolled in degree program related to Energy, Economics, Government, Business, Law, or other related program

  • Must live in the D.C. or Charlotte, NC area

Desired Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.75or higher

  • Currently enrolled in graduate level degree program related to Energy, Economics, Government, Business, Law, or other related program

  • Relevant work experience prior to graduate studies preferred

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work environment (with requirement for min 8 hours per week in person).

  • Hours flexible based on class schedule and student availability, with an opportunity for additional hours between the fall and spring semesters (anticipate min 15 hours per week with up to 40 hours during winter break).
