The 4-H Associate Educator is a 60% FTE position working in and throughout Brown County.

The individual in this position will be a preferred bilingual and bicultural (English and Spanish) team member whose priority will be working with young people throughout Brown County, with emphasis on reaching youth in areas currently unserved, including Spanish-speaking audiences using bilingual/bi-literate/bicultural skills. This individual will apply the University of Wisconsin's research, education and outreach resources to address locally identified needs and opportunities.

The 4-H Associate Educator will assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating 4-H events and activities and building awareness of 4-H Outreach programs through marketing to new audiences and helping to provide positive youth development experience in order to retain new and previous participants in 4-H programs. The position will work closely with the Brown County 4-H Program Educator. In particular, the Associate Educator will implement the Tools to Thrive in partnership with local school districts, out of school learning partners, and community youth organizations. The Associate Educator will help deliver other programming through 4-H events, camps, community events (eg, fairs), and other settings. The individual in this position will also be essential in developing and sustaining community partnerships that support programming.

County Location

The main office for this position is located in Green Bay, WI and the primary programming focus is Brown County; however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area.

Terminal Position

The initial period of employment will be until August 2026, with the possibility to become renewable or be extended contingent upon available funding.

In Person

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Evening/Weekend Work

This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served.

Travel Expectations

It is expected that employees will make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions. Read more about UW-Madison Driver Authorization.

Applicants are required to: Have a valid drivers license and a reliable source of independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or comply with requirements for UW-Madison vehicle use authorization.

Bilingual Preferred

This position has a bilingual preferred qualification, which means a bilingual skillset is desired to bolster programming initiatives but is not required. A bilingual title designation and unique responsibility will be added to the final position description if the final candidate passes the language proficiency assessment.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
  • Helps build and sustain relationships with community partners

  • Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
  • Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement
  • Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
  • Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
  • Communicate plans, activities and achievements to 4-H Program Educator, Area Extension Director, Program Managers, partners and relevant stakeholders.

  • Teaches and/or supports educational programing (in Spanish and English) and adapts educational approaches in a manner that are culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate for the audiences' needs.

About the Institute

The Extension Institute of Positive Youth Development prepares the youth of today to become the effective, empathic adults of tomorrow. Our research-based youth enrichment programs like teens in governance build youth and adult capacity and partnerships that help both sides grow. 4-H clubs, camps and afterschool programs give young people the hands-on experiences they need to develop an understanding of themselves and the world.

Compensation:

The minimum annual (12 months full-time) starting for the position is $46,363 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Pro-rated Salary

This is a part-time position, which means actual salary earned will be prorated based on FTE (full-time status). At 60% FTE, the person hired can expect to receive 60% of the advertised salary. Please note that some benefits such as paid time off will be prorated by appointment percentage.

Bilingual Preferred

This position has a bilingual preferred qualification. Upon the successful completion of a Language Proficiency Assessment, a 'bilingual' prefix will be added to the official title. The bilingual prefix is accompanied by a $3500.00 pay increase applied to the annual salary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach interactive lessons to youth and adults in group settings

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments

  • Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Extension's values of equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities

  • Ability to lift program materials up to 20 pounds with assistance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Volunteer or work experience related to delivering educational programs for LatinX communities or other minority groups

  • Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies and community-based organizations


Bilingual Preferred

Spanish speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Spanish culture. Language skills will be evaluated.

These materials may be used to determine who advances in the interview process. If your certification is approved, you may be exempt from our internal language proficiency assessment. Preferred certifications include those from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), though others may also be considered.
