This position is responsible for welding, fabrication, installation and maintenance of natural gas distribution and transmission systems. This position prepares the employee to progress to the Journeyman Welder position. In addition, this position must follow all Company policies/procedures and local/state regulations. Duties and responsibilities as needed and required include: 
 Assist with the duties associated with fabrication, testing, modifying, and installing meter and regulator stations under close supervision of more senior Fabrication employeesInstalling, maintaining, repairing, relocating, and retiring new or existing pipelines to include emergency response under close supervision of more senior Fabrication employeesPerform structural and pipe welding duties associated with live gas carrying components in our systemCompletion of Fabrication documentation and administrative paperworkPreventive maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles and equipmentAssist all Fabrication employees as neededObserve Journeyman Welder welding technique and make practice position welds to acquire greater skillDemonstrate knowledge and proficiency in safely using all tools and equipment associated with the Fabrication Shop and Fabrication field workMust be able to successfully promote to the "Journeyman Welder" position within the timeframes outlined in the Contract and Employee Development GuideOther duties as assigned Basic Qualifications for Welder 
 Possess and maintain a valid Driver's LicensePossess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 1 year of hirePossess a High School Diploma or GED equivalentDemonstrate effective communication skills (Verbal & Written), interpersonal skills and safety awareness2 years of natural gas pipeline experiencePC Knowledge working in a Windows environment Additional Preferred Qualifications Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, have all the qualifications of a Welder Apprentice and, in addition 
 Must have worked as a Welder Apprentice for one and one-half (1 ) years.Must demonstrate ability to perform duties of this job through the medium of tests designed for measuring individual qualifications before entering this classification.Must be able to read blueprints or sketches and be able to construct welding fittings or assemblies as shown by the blueprints or sketches.Must be able and willing to direct the work of other employees in this or less skilled classifications. Basic Qualifications for Journeyman Welder 
 Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent4 years of natural gas pipeline welding experience and/or have completed a measurable (inches of successful weld) amount of production welds (as per the current industry standard)Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and obtain a Commercial Driver's License A within 1 year of entering positionDemonstrate the ability to pass "Multiple Qualification" welding test in accordance with the latest edition of API 1104Demonstrate the ability to pass "In-Service" welding test in accordance with the latest edition of API 1104 (Appendix B)Maintain "current" welding status for all welding proceduresAbility to read and interpret engineering and construction design drawingsDemonstrate PC knowledge working in a windows environmentDemonstrate effective communication skills (verbal & written), interpersonal skills and safety awareness Additional Preferred Qualifications 
 2 years Technical School Education or associate degree6 years of natural gas pipeline welding experienceTDW/Mueller Tapping ExperienceNC Fuel Piping, plumbing, or electrical licensePossess and maintain a valid CDL License Work Requirements: 
 Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a Duke Energy facilityMust work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; lifting up to 75lbs; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, standing, digging, and climbing; works on uneven terrain; many times with heavy vegetation; manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination); keen eyesight; good hearing; good sense of smell; ability to use breathing apparatus when responding to gas leaks.Weekend and evening work as required. Subject to work extended hours and must be available for call-out and emergency response. Some Rotating shifts and overnight travel will be required. Travel Requirements5-15%
