This is a 2nd shift opportunity (3:30pm - 11:30pm), Monday through Friday.

The Assistant Printing Operator at the Lawrence, under the direction of the Lead Press Operator, will assist with the duties of producing production quantities of Hallmark Litho within specified quality parameters. The Assistant Press operator must gain the ability to run any of the primary printing presses and be willing to function in any of the related press functions (Lead Press Operator or Press Feeder Operator) as needed based on workload and operator availability. Must have a good understanding of ink systems and able to judge and interpret color balance standards. Must also have thorough understanding of the press as well as skills to operate the press. Must be able to lead, assist and train press crew.

In this position you will:




  • Assists Lead Press Operator with the checking of register, color consistency, and overall quality of the job while meeting or exceeding established production targets. Also assists with manual adjustments of press during the press runs.



  • Assists with wash-up and filling of ink fountains. Hang plates and sets up perfector as required. Assists Lead Press Operator with inking up press.



  • Assists Lead Press Operator with pre-flight responsibilities and pre-make ready responsibilities including supplying plates and special inks to press and other activities. Has operational expertise with color management systems i.e. X-Rite or inline scanning devices. Responsible for Feeder Operator duties and responsibilities



  • Has operational expertise in servicing roller train. (i.e. removal, checking, cleaning, installing and setting). Also performs designated maintenance and lubrication of the press that promotes machine readiness.



  • Adheres to good safety practices. Understands and follows established safety procedures.



  • Participates in performance dialogues and team problem solving activities. Identifies potential problems and proactively works on problem resolution and alternative solutions to traditional methods of operation.



  • Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork to positively influence how goals are accomplished within shorter periods of time. Effectively communicates information to other to ensure consistency and continuous operation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry items weighing up to 25-50 lbs. frequently, and 50 - 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk 95% of the time
  • Ability to frequently reach, twist, bend, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills
  • Ability to frequently work in awkward, cramped, and difficult positions
  • Ability to regularly work at or above shoulder level and in awkward positions
  • Ability to pass a color perception test. Testing must be on file.


AND



  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as successfully running equipment at the Medium Production Operator level, Large Production Operator level, Envelope Technician level, Lead Press Operator level or Press Operator.
  • Must have been a successful feeder operator on a 40" printing press for 2 years or have operated a printing press.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Demonstrated strong mechanical skills and computer skills
  • Possess good knowledge inks, color, and their affect in printing and attaining the correct reproduction of product.
  • Good analytical skills to assist in making adjustments to the ink to achieve appropriate color
  • Experience with liquid inks preferred
  • Ability to problem solve technical issues and provide recommendations
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with a proven work ethic and ability to perform under pressure to reorganize and change directions when necessary
  • Ability to understand and follow established safety procedures for wearing PPE, and handling hazardous chemicals
  • Good math, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge
  • Working knowledge of SAP



ADDITIONAL DETAILS



  • Work includes overtime, as required during peak seasons
  • There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark.
  • This is a production environment that requires wearing appropriate PPE and following operating procedures when working with hazardous chemicals, moving press equipment, and working with sharp objects.



This position is located in Lawrence, Kansas. Relocation is not provided.
