Job Description

Position Overview:

The Network Senior Engineer / Team Lead provides senior-level technical leadership for enterprise network design, implementation, and sustainment. This position ensures that all network services meet performance, availability, and cybersecurity requirements in accordance with DHS OneNet.

Serves as the senior technical authority for network engineering tasks, leading cross-functional technical teams and coordinating with DHS OneNet Engineering, stakeholders, and vendors to maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing network operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead network engineering operations and technical staff responsible for maintaining and optimizing enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Prioritize, troubleshoot, and resolve network outages, incidents, and service degradations; manage escalations and root cause analysis.
  • Design, implement, and validate operational network systems and prototypes consistent with DHS engineering data, configuration baselines, and change-management requirements.
  • Review and prepare Infrastructure Change Control Board (ICCB) packets for technical accuracy; provide recommendations and coordinate with DHS OneNet and Data Center (DC) personnel to ensure proper rollout.
  • Collaborate with System Engineers, Security Analysts, and vendors to identify, define, and resolve complex technical and performance issues.
  • Develop and execute network modernization and cloud migration strategies that align with DHS enterprise architecture.
  • Monitor network performance metrics, identify capacity constraints, and implement improvements to ensure optimal operation and availability.
  • Produce, maintain, and update comprehensive documentation including network topology diagrams, configuration standards, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians; support the Program Manager with task prioritization and resource planning.
  • Ensure compliance with DHS IT security, FISMA, and TIC 3.0 standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive technical experience in network engineering or a closely related field within the last seven (7) years.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise network systems, including both wired and wireless infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, and network management tools.
  • Experience with DHS OneNet.
  • Proven ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Experience supporting Infrastructure Change Control Board (ICCB) processes and network configuration compliance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to federal contract and security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent vendor certification.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking technologies (AWS, Azure, hybrid environments).
  • Experience implementing or supporting ITIL-based service management practices.
  • Familiarity with federal cybersecurity policies, DHS OneNet standards, and NIST 800-series frameworks.
  • Prior experience supporting DHS, DoD, or other federal IT infrastructure programs.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related discipline preferred.

Clearance Requirement:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to be considered
  • Active Public Trust or have the ability to obtain one.

Salary Range:

  • The expected pay range for this position is up to $115,000 yearly.
  • The exact pay rate will vary based on skills, experience, and location.
