JOB ANNOUNCEMENT LEGAL COUNSEL-BOARD OF ETHICS Board of Ethics Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies are possible pending budget approval) Annual Starting Salary $83,052 Applications for this position will be accepted beginning 10-28-25 until 11:59pm CDT on 11-10-25 Under direction, interprets the City of Chicago's Governmental Ethics and serves as legal counsel to the Board of Ethics, and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Conducts in-depth research into legal issues relative to ethics and campaign financing. * Provides legal counsel to department staff engaged in administering the Governmental Ethics Ordinances, and as to the Illinois Freedom of Information and Open Meeting Acts. * Responds to inquiries from City employees, operating departments, and the City Council concerning financial disclosure procedures, alleged misconduct, campaign contributions, and other ethics-related matters. * Evaluates pending legislation and drafts advisory opinions interpreting the Governmental Ethics Ordinance. * Surveys and tracks ethics-related practices, cases and legislative changes and developments throughout the United States at the federal, state, and local levels. * Prepares written summaries of ethical standards in surveyed governmental agencies. * Oversees the work of clerical and professional employees engaged in gathering and analyzing collected data from various jurisdictions. * Participates in the conduct of ethics training for City employees, as required.

Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school, plus three years of work experience in the legal profession as a licensed attorney. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705). The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview, will be selected.
