About Housing and Residential Life

HRL manages all aspects of university housing, including operations, maintenance, and residential life initiatives.

The Role

Under the general supervision of the Director of Housing Facilities, the Associate Director of Housing Facilities independently manages daily housing facility operations, including maintenance, custodial services, and facilities projects. This position requires a strong understanding of trades and MEP systems to develop and implement effective solutions to maintenance and operational challenges.

In collaboration with the Director, the Associate Director plans, staffs, directs, and manages daily operations-including construction, routine and preventative maintenance, alteration projects, and capital improvements-while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational excellence. The incumbent provides general supervision to a multi-skilled facilities team and assists with budget preparation and management.

Your Day Will Likely Include:

    Managing routine maintenance, emergency repairs, and capital projects across HRL facilities (including MEP and custodial operations).
  • Leading staff development, performance management, and workforce planning for a diverse and unionized team.
  • Partnering with HRL leadership to establish long- and short-term goals for maintenance, construction, and custodial operations.
  • Communicating regularly with Housing and Residential Life representatives to ensure alignment, resolve conflicts, and support operational needs.
  • Monitoring and managing project budgets, schedules, and expenditures.
  • Supporting and maintaining a culture of safety, equity, and student-centered service.

Experience You Will Bring to the Organization:

  • 5+ years of Facilities Management experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of Housing, Student Services, or related university experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Trades and MEP systems with the ability to identify and implement solutions.
  • Proven success leading in unionized environments.
  • Expertise in project planning, budgeting, and quality control.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with a diverse, multicultural campus community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and resident management systems (e.g., StarRez).

Physical Summary:

Medium work - involves lifting up to 40 pounds and performing tasks such as standing, kneeling, or walking 20-40% of the time. Work may take place in varied environments, including mechanical spaces and outdoor areas.

Compensation:

Hiring Range: $9,166 - $9,834 per month (commensurate with education, experience, and skills).
