Responsibilities

General Description:

Considered an emerging authority, who applies extensive technical expertise. Develops technical solutions to complex problems. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment. Using a holistic approach, designs, develops, evaluates and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics. Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower level detailed implementation requirements. Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Designs interfaces and brings system elements together so they work as a whole. Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements. Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower level detailed requirements. Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation. Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures. Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.

Program Description:

One year into a new 7-year contract, this program provides SETA (Systems Engineering Technical Advisor) & SE&I (Systems Engineering & Integration) services to an important Intelligence Community (IC) customer with a focus on critical, space domain missions and supporting IT infrastructure. The contract support is part of the customer core team focused on all aspects of the systems engineering life cycle beginning with conops development, where we work directly with users, potentially going into harm's way, who will be dependent on these systems. We then capture their requirements and work closely with developers to deliver these essential capabilities. We get involved with setting up and running tests to ensure these cutting-edge capabilities will meet the stringent requirements and then we support transition to operations. Once in operations, our teams work closely with the users to make sure critical operations are successful, providing important information to support critical decisions by policy makers. The program also supports client acquisition strategy, future technology development and modernization efforts.

Specific position description:

This position is focused on the mission operations role and is located at a customer facility in Springfield, VA. While supporting mission operations, you will:

  • Become familiar with 24x7 mission operations activities and the critical nature of our support to the end users out in the field.
  • Become a subject matter expert in several mission systems.
  • Lead anomaly resolution activities to address mission outages.
  • Support testing and readiness events to integrate new capabilities into the system.
  • Regularly coordinate with program acquisition personnel to stay abreast of new projects that will eventually be integrated into operations.
  • Lead Mission Operations projects covering a wide range of activities including reviewing and developing operations procedures to support new capabilities,
  • Generally support the Mission Operations government team in all operations related activities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must possess and be able to maintain TS/SCI with Poly
  • 8 to 10 years with BS or 6 to 8 years with MS or 3 to 5 years with a PhD
  • 3 to 5 years of mission operations, supporting 24x7 operations teams
  • The ability to work well within a team of engineers
  • Demonstrated success in working with government customers.

Desired:

  • BS in Space Operations, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience with working with mission users to understand and capture their requirements helping to ensure success
  • Experience investigating anomalies using fault isolation anroot cause analysis techniques.
  • Experience as a SETA with IC customers working in operations and conducting related readiness processes.
  • Experience with networks and RF based satellite communications systems.
