KPMG is currently seeking a Managing Director to join our Audit Professional Practice Support (PPS) organization.

As the Managing Director of Professional Practice Support (PPS), you will lead a strategic team that serves as the support structure for the audit practice and leaders in audit risk management policy, procedure and technology. This role is pivotal in shaping audit quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The processes and related technology that PPS owns and supports in the scope of this position include but are not limited to: Audit client and engagement acceptance, continuance, and re-evaluation, Independence assessments and partner rotation compliance, Partner and MD Workload balancing and succession planning, Audit Quality Rating design and annual assessment, Regulatory inquiries and PCAOB information requests, Development and maintenance of tools that support these processes including but are not limited to: Partner Rotation System (PRS), PCAOB Data Request (PDR), ServiceNow Audit Operations Portal / PPIM, the Workload Review Tool, Audit Quality Rating, Roles Accreditation Database (RAD) and others.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the Professional Practice Services (PPS) team, including recruitment, onboarding and succession planning; establish performance metrics and conduct regular coaching and feedback sessions; align team structure and resource allocation with strategic priorities and emerging risk areas
  • Act as Primary Liaison for Policy, Process and Technology; serve as the primary liaison with Risk Management, Independence, and DPP and other stakeholders to align evolving global/US policies and procedures and drive enhancements to shared processes and related technology
  • Provide Technical Guidance, elevation and act as the escalation point for complex technical and risk-related matters requiring professional judgment; guide PPS team in supporting audit partners with risk management tools, regulatory interpretations and technology enablement; ensure consistent application of firm policies across engagements and geographies
  • Drive SoQC Execution and Lead PPS contributions to the System of Quality Control (SoQC), including documentation, testing and remediation activities in relevant areas; serve as the primary liaison with the Quality Office and external regulators on SoQC-related matters; monitor and report on quality indicators, trends and improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership and Partner with senior audit leaders, including the NMP-AQPP, to shape and execute strategic initiatives; provide thought leadership and influence policy development at the national and global levels
  • Represent PPS in firmwide governance forums and regulatory discussions and collaborate with and support the Audit Professional Practice Partner (APPP) on SoQC matters and new initiatives, including development of communications for the BUPPP network; set Strategic Direction and Champion Innovation for PPS and establish and drive the strategic direction for the PPS team, aligning it with the firm's audit strategy to continuously enhance Audit Risk Management processes and tools
  • Foster an innovative mindset across people, process, and technology (including "AI-first") to pioneer new solutions, optimize team performance and drive efficiency
Qualifications:
  • Minimum fifteen years of recent financial statement audit and/or related job with Professional practice / Risk Management experience in a client service environment
  • Bachelor of Accountancy or Master of Accountancy from an accredited college or university
  • A proven track record of leading complex engagements exhibiting exceptional analytic and problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop talent, with strong skills in project management, team coaching and resource management
  • Adept at engaging, influencing and collaborating with senior firm leaders (including NMP-level), partners and external regulators
