Position Description:

The Department of Dermatology, Division of Pediatric Dermatology, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to collaborate with pediatric dermatology physicians and an interdisciplinary health care in the ambulatory outpatient environment located in northeast WI at the Children's Wisconsin Appleton Clinic and Ashwaubenon Clinic. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. This is an ideal position for a pediatric specialist with a desire to work in a world-class academic medicine environment while living in a thriving area perfect for raising a family and surrounded by incredible natural beauty.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is an academic partner to Children's Wisconsin, the region's only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. This APP will augment pediatric dermatology care currently provided by physicians in northeast WI. The position will be based in the outpatient pediatric dermatology clinics in Appleton and Ashwaubenon, with the opportunity to participate in clinics and conferences in the Milwaukee metro area approximately 1-2 times monthly. Initial training in pediatric dermatology will be in the Milwaukee metro area for an anticipated 3 to 12 months, depending on prior experience.

The Ideal Candidate will be an independent and experienced APP who has excellent attention to detail and is a collaborative team player with a strong interest in building an independent practice within a thriving and very collaborative academic pediatric dermatology division. Prior dermatology or pediatric dermatology experience is preferred.

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of pediatric dermatology conditions in the outpatient environment as a member of the pediatric dermatology team.
  • Perform dermatologic procedures in children, including cryotherapy, biopsy, curettage, and injections.
  • Facilitate and communicate with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Timely completion of patient care tasks within the electronic medical record, including documentation, triaging test results, handling refill requests, and responding to patient portal messages.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
  • Evaluate and improve quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in quality improvement and patient safety efforts.
  • Educate staff and other healthcare providers on pediatric dermatology topics as needed (when invited to lecture).
  • Attend educational conferences and administrative meetings as required by the Department of Dermatology and Division of Pediatric Dermatology
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
  • Perform e-consultation or virtual visits as required.
  • Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core weekday business hours (Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 5 pm) and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

The role is employed by the Medical College of Wisconsin and provides care at Children's Wisconsin. Both organizations are based in the Milwaukee area, though clinical services are provided throughout the state and this position will be based in Northeast Wisconsin.
