 The High Voltage Technician will safely operate bench test equipment and perform validation, diagnostics, and repairs on railroad components-such as batteries, compressors, electronic/electrical/mechanical controllers, and high-voltage subsystems-while meeting production targets. This role involves hands-on work using both manual and power tools, performing automated and manual tests, and collaborating closely with engineers and shop management to maintain quality and safety standards. Responsibilities & Accountabilities
 
 
  
 
 Strictly adhere to established safety protocols in the Technical Work Center and at the New Castle facility 
 Assemble, validate, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage components and systems 
 Conduct validation, repair, and testing of wire harness assemblies, including operating test equipment to confirm integrity 
 Assemble and maintain electrical and mechanical systems-routing wiring, installing connectors, and servicing contactors 
 Perform flow testing and diagnostic routines on high-voltage systems 
 Assist in the design, build, and calibration of bench test equipment 
 Operate test instruments including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, meggers, hi-pot and high voltage DC/AC power supplies 
 Safely use power tools (e.g. drills, pneumatic presses, pneumatic tools) and hand tools (e.g. crimpers, strippers, torque wrenches, etc.) 
 Cross-train across departments-HVAC, electromechanical systems, electronics-as project needs dictate 
 Use Microsoft Office (including Access) to produce test reports and perform analysis 
 Input, track, and document completed tasks in SAP 
 Mentor and assist other technicians in shop processes, safety standards, and best practices 
 Communicate findings and recommendations to Technical Engineers or Shop Supervisors 
 Education & Certification Requirements
 
 
  
 
 High school diploma (required) 
 Technical or vocational school degree preferred 
 NFPA70E certification (preferred) or equivalent military electronics background 
 Experience & Technical Skills
 
 
  
 
 Hands-on experience in high-voltage testing, validation, and repair 
 Proficiency with standard electronics test equipment (digital voltmeter, oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.) 
 Ability to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics 
 (Desirable) Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance and safety risk assessment 
 (Desirable) Solid foundation in electronic principles, circuit design, and testing methodologies
