Responsibilities

Willow Springs Center has an opening for a professional, caring and dedicated HIM/Medical Records Manager for our Residential Treatment Facility.

Postion responsibilities:


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Files material daily.
  • Retrieves charts as soon as possible after request is received.
  • Files charts as soon as possible after received.
  • Closes discharge charts upon receipt.
  • In accordance with all federal and state laws, determines legality of requests for records and processes in a manner that protects patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Responds to request for information in a timely manner that complies with all regulations.
  • Responds to all subpoenas and other legal requests pertaining to medical records, in conjunction with the Director of Risk Management.
  • Coordinate the preparation and/or revisions to medical record, forms, ensuring compliance with all requirements of various regulatory agencies, applicable state and federal laws, Bylaws and Rules/Regulations of the corporate office.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the format and information contained in each report and all other documentation for determination of diagnoses and codes.
  • Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology to ensure accuracy of medical records.
  • Applies coding principles in ICD-9, DSM coding methodologies.
  • Works cohesively with clinical and medical staff regarding documentation needs and requirements.
  • Accurately analyzes medical records to determine completeness and accuracy of admission diagnosis, codes.
  • Assures documentation substantiates, client management, and care was affected by conditions which co-existed at admission or developed subsequently.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma required. Completion of a Medical Terminology Course required. Transcription and coding coursework a plus. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred.

Experience: Three years of experience in a Medical Records position.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements may be considered.
