Job Overview:

The Lead Respiratory Therapist, provides therapeutic, supportive, and diagnostic respiratory services and care to all RWJBH patients.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Care with a minimum of an Associate's degree in Respiratory Care
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • 3 years experience
  • BLS through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time
  • Night Shift

Essential Functions:

  • Provides therapeutic, supportive, and diagnostic respiratory services and care to all RWJBH patients.
  • Development, instituting and maintaining a ventilator weaning process in order to decrease ventilator days and hospital length of stay
  • Perform performance improvement activities including chart reviews, statistical analysis and assigned studies
  • Report results to Department Leadership, appropriate committees and PI Dashboards,
  • Demonstrate familiarity with performance improvement methods such as CQI and PDCA,
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities of the CRT or RRT as appropriate,
  • Lead and participate in educational programs for Respiratory, Nursing and Medical staff as requested.
  • Develop programs and attend appropriate internal and external training courses for continuing education.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff members.
  • Acts as a resource to patients, families, peers, nurses and physicians as requested.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment within the department as time permits.
  • Fulfill role of Charge Therapist if assigned.
  • Provides coverage for other Respiratory Care Practitioners as necessary.
  • Complete all mandatory Competencies within specified timeframe,
  • Complete all online training within specified timeframe,
  • The Lead/Coordinator is responsible, in conjunction with Department Leadership, for development and revision of policies, procedures and guidelines for modalities in the Critical Care areas. This includes training new and existing staff.
  • Maintain annual competencies in the following age-specific populations: Neonatal, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
  • Ensures that appropriate standards of practice follow corporate compliance guidelines,
  • Act in an ethical and legal manner
  • Assures that all actions are in the best interest of the hospital.
  • The results of accreditation survey and licensure reviews by NJSDOH and TJC are satisfactory.
  • Availability to attend monthly Critical Care Quality department meetings,
  • Reporting any issues, problems and opportunities to the Respiratory Director, Assistant Director on a regular basis,
  • Exercises leadership and independent judgment in directing employee labor
  • Makes recommendations regarding the ongoing performance evaluation of supervised staff and resulting actions
  • Provides on-call coverage for Respiratory when needed
  • Provides appropriate in-service to patients, family, physicians, nurses, and clinical employees as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
