DESCRIPTION

Under direction, the Senior Equipment Planner budgets, plans, and identifies capital equipment needs for construction, renovation, and medical equipment replacement projects. Provides technical information and guidance on equipment selection, utilization, pricing, and compliance with equipment standards, as well as project scope, construction, and space requirements. Serves as the equipment planning and programming liaison in coordination with academic, clinical, and administrative committees, user departments, and senior leadership. Collaborates with project managers, design teams, vendors, and stakeholders throughout all phases of the project to ensure equipment requirements are accurately reflected in planning, design, procurement, and implementation. Provides consultative support in developing detailed equipment lists, budgets, and schedules aligned with project goals and institutional standards.

The Senior Equipment Planner prepares and/or oversees the development and periodic review of equipment documentation, including equipment listings, technical data sheets, room layouts, and infrastructure requirements. Participates in design reviews, construction coordination meetings, and project planning sessions to ensure equipment needs are fully integrated. Coordinates and/or manages site visits, special studies, and analysis of emerging technologies and their application to current and future capital projects. Oversees the planning, procurement, fit-up, and installation of medical center capital equipment, including coordination of delivery logistics and vendor installation schedules. Supports project closeout activities, including equipment commissioning, asset tagging, and documentation handover. Provides review and approval of non-capital equipment and clinical goods requisitions to ensure alignment with medical center standards, budgets, and purchasing protocols. Analyzes and develops departmental procedures with recommendations for changes and improvements as required by institutional policies, facilities codes, and regulatory agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in architecture, planning, education/business administration, or industrial or biomedical engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • Three (3+) or more years of related experience in equipment planning for construction and remodel projects, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and project manager software skills. Working knowledge of CAD drawing programs and architectural design application programs.
  • Experience and working knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including full understanding of industry practices.
  • Experience working with high-value hospital/clinical capital equipment procurement programs, including justification, return on investment, and value analysis.
  • Financial skills to prepare, monitor and manage project budgets, evaluate cost estimates, and review payment requests.
  • Experience with supply chain management to encompass supply chain logistics, procurement, inventory management, and contract management.
  • Strong communication skills on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting with project team, leaders, stakeholders, contractors and consultants.
  • Experience tracking metrics, analyzing data, and creating summary reports on Key Performance Indicators.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four (4+) or more years of related experience in equipment planning for construction and remodel projects, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience with medical equipment validation and procurement.
  • Experience with Attainia capital equipment planning software.

  • Must be able to work various hours & locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,200 - $182,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.55 - $87.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
