The Position

The Opportunity

The Senior Manager of Federal Policy plays an important role within Genentech's matrixed Policy team and the broader External Affairs organization. This position is responsible for supporting and executing policy strategies that enable access to our therapies and continued innovation. The role focuses on cross-portfolio (therapeutic area-agnostic) federal policy and requires an understanding of the healthcare policy landscape and stakeholder relationships.

This individual will identify policy challenges and opportunities, support development of strategic solutions, and support advocacy efforts to advance our goals. Success in this role requires dedication, agility, and a results-driven mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource on priority federal policy issues affecting patient access, pricing, and key business drivers by actively monitoring, analyzing, and summarizing legislative and regulatory developments.

  • Analyze stakeholder positions and policy trends, anticipating issues that could affect the business.

  • Support the Federal Policy team in developing responses to policy challenges. This includes drafting analyses of proposed legislation and regulations, background documents, talking points, and other advocacy materials under the guidance of senior team members.

  • Contribute research and policy analysis to inform the development of federal policy goals, plans, and tactics.

  • Collaborate with internal partners (e.g., Issue Advocacy, Government Affairs, and the business) to gather information, understand business objectives, and contribute to the development of aligned policy positions and advocacy strategies.

  • Actively participate in internal and external workgroups on current and emerging policy issues. May lead specific workstreams or projects within these groups as assigned.

Who you are
  • You have a Bachelors Degree

  • You have 5+ years of experience working with or within the U.S. government and possess a strong working knowledge of healthcare policy.

  • You have a demonstrated ability to build professional relationships.

  • You have a solid understanding of U.S. legislative and regulatory processes.

  • You have experience with Medicare and Medicaid policy.

  • You have demonstrated an ability to contribute to the development of policy and advocacy strategies and support implementation through research, analysis, and the creation of supporting materials.

  • You have experience working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, such as trade associations and coalitions, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with key health agencies and congressional committees.

The role is based out of and requires an onsite presence at our Washington DC Genentech Campus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington DC is $140,400/yr to $260,800/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
