Position Overview:

McKesson, a leading Fortune 9 healthcare company, is seeking a Lead Program Manager to provide leadership for strategic programs in enterprise applications organization. In this senior role, you will drive large-scale programs that leverage ERP, cloud, data, and analytics technologies to transform business processes and healthcare IT systems. You will own the full program lifecycle - from strategy and planning through execution and change management - ensuring initiatives meet strategic objectives and compliance standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership:Lead end-to-end delivery of strategic enterprise applications programs, including development of program charters, plans, schedules, and budgets. Partners with the enterprise applications PMO and cross-functional teams to monitor progress, mitigate risks, and report status to senior leadership.

  • Operations:Provide strategic planning support for enterprise applications organization and drive operational rigor. Provide oversight projects to improve organizational effectiveness and efficiencies.

  • Digital Modernization & Innovation:Oversee technology modernization efforts and facilitate innovation by fostering a "digital mindset" - for example, designing upskilling programs (training, workshops, e-learning) to build data/IT capabilities across the organization. Champion simplification of business processes, leveraging automation and data-driven insights to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.

  • Change Management & Adoption:Lead organizational change management and communications for digital initiatives. Develop adoption strategies (training, stakeholder engagement, communication plans) to ensure new systems and processes are embraced throughout the business. Track key metrics of user adoption and digital maturity, and refine strategies based on data-driven feedback.

  • Governance & Compliance:Ensure all program activities adhere to McKesson's technology governance, security, and healthcare regulatory standards. Define and monitor performance metrics and KPIs to measure program ROI and business impact. Promote continuous improvement by incorporating industry best practices in digital program management and governance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience

Critical Skills

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in program or portfolio management within a large enterprise, with a proven track record of leading major programs end-to-end. Experience in the healthcare or life sciences sector (e.g. pharmaceutical supply chain, clinical systems) and familiarity with healthcare IT systems (EHRs, pharmacy management, compliance) is strongly preferred.

  • Strategic Planning:Expert in translating business strategies into executable program plans. Able to guide the direction of cloud/digital initiatives to achieve scalability, efficiency, and growth.

  • Program & Project Management:Deep experience managing complex, multi-year programs and multiple concurrent projects. Proficiency in budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and governance (waterfall or agile).

  • Change & Culture Management:Skilled in leading cultural change and building digital maturity across an organization. Able to design learning and change programs that promote innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving:Strong analytical skills to assess program performance, identify issues, and make data-driven decisions. Solid business acumen, including experience in financial analysis and budget management for large programs.

  • Collaboration & Leadership:Exceptional ability to lead cross-functional and cross-regional teams, mentor junior managers, and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders. Able to navigate a fast-paced, matrixed environment and adapt to changing priorities

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Certifications:Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and PMP or Agile/Scrum certification highly desirable. Other valuable certifications include Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, SAFe, or specific technology/platform certifications (e.g. AWS, Azure).

  • Education: Master's degree in business (MBA), Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics is desirable

  • Communication & Leadership:Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and guide large, distributed teams. Demonstrated success in stakeholder management and vendor management (defining contracts, tracking deliverables) is essential.

  • Service Delivery Capabilities

    • Plan and manage release windows and lifecycle in coordination with delivery leads.

    • Conduct release assessments and implement enterprise-aligned release strategies.

    • Maintain a comprehensive release schedule, ensuring documentation, testing signoffs, and stakeholder communication.

    • Lead release readiness reviews and ensure compliance with quality gates and regulatory standards.

    • Execute fallback procedures and communicate change status to operations and service desks.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Business, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics or a related field OR equivalent experience

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $138,600 - $231,000
