The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Columbia University Libraries is currently seeking applicants for the position of Technical Assistant IV in the department of Shipping and Receiving which is housed in Butler Library, Columbia's largest library.

Responsibilities



  • Responsible for the transportation, pick-up and delivery of materials between and among CU Libraries and a variety of off-campus locations according to a guaranteed delivery schedule. These deliveries usually require the use of a hand truck and/or the CUL truck.
  • Sorting, opening and delivering incoming mail and other library materials; wrapping books and other library materials for mailing and other shipment; preparing materials for shipment using the scales, postage meter, UPS software; delivering materials to the USPS for shipment.
  • Receiving and signing for UPS, Fed Ex, and other delivery shipments. Receiving and returning materials to the ReCAP facility courier.
  • Shelving and shifting of books pre- and post-delivery to and from campus locations; disposing of material that is no longer wanted to CUL.
  • Fulfilling supply requests; restocking shelves; receiving shipments and verifying contents for the Supply Room.
  • Responsible for pick-up and delivery of materials donations in the greater New York City area. This may include packing the donations for transportation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • High school education required.
  • Ability to lift heavy weights in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use a postage meter, postal scales, dollies, and hand trucks.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to drive a van; must have a valid driver's license which is current (no restrictions).


Preferred Qualifications



  • Previous experience driving a commercial vehicle.
