We are a family-owned contractor supporting federal contracts and seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support FAR/DCMA-governed federal contracts as the company's general contractor. This hands-on role will manage cost accounting, project billing and reporting, and help establish accounting policies and processes. Strong Excel skills and experience with FAR/DCMA requirements are required. This position reports to the Vice President of Accounting and has a clear path to Divisional Controller as you grow into the role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain project financials for federal contracts governed by FAR/DCMA: cost tracking, indirects, labor distributions, and contract compliance.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, project cost forecasts, monthly project reports, and variance analyses.
- Manage billing and revenue recognition for contract deliverables; prepare invoices and support audit requests.
- Implement and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for project accounting.
- Support audits and DCMA inquiries; prepare schedules and provide required backup.
- Build and improve templates, reports, and processes to scale divisional accounting operations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, contracts, operations and payroll teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of related accounting experience supporting project-based or government contracts.
- Demonstrated experience with FAR/DCMA accounting requirements.
- Strong cost accounting experience, including indirect allocations and job-costing.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, data analysis).
Preferred
- Experience with CMiC or similar ERP/accounting systems.
- Experience preparing audit schedules and supporting government audits.
- Proven ability to create and document accounting processes and controls.
Physical Demands:
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
- Occasional lifting (up to 15 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
