Description

Participate as a full-time faculty member in the Departmental and Medical School activities as a Clinician Teacher. The incumbent has a major commitment to the provision, advancement and promotion of excellence in clinical care and teaching/educational activities, and contributes significantly to scholarly activities.


Examples of Duties

Administrative (includes 5% academic consideration time) 25%

A. Serve Division Chief, Pulmonary and Critical Care. (.20 FTE)

1.Organize and manage the clinical programs of the Division to meet the needs of patients,

other physicians, and students and residents. This includes overseeing the quality of medical care provide by Division members including: development, collection and reporting of quality metrics; assuring that the Division responds in an appropriate and timely fashion to patients and referring physicians; and contributing to improvements in the quality of care throughout the Department.

2.Provide leadership, support and professional guidance for Division faculty including: informal feedback on performance throughout the year; a review of each faculty's position description, contract and funding sources at least yearly; annual evaluation of all faculty with recommendations for improvement; and supervision of the Division faculty's career development and progress in the promotion and tenure system.

3.Partner with clinical and department administrative leaders to provide direction and administrative structure for all staff assigned to the Division; and participate in evaluating the administrative, research and clinical staff.

4.Represent, and advocate for, the School of Medicine, the Department and the Division in interactions with outside individuals and groups, including physicians from the community and from other departments within the medical school; faculty from other medical schools; affiliated hospitals and other healthcare institutions; professional societies and organizations; patients; and the public.

5.Work with Department and Division staff to expand and develop the Department and Division, including recruiting new faculty, identifying new funding sources for faculty and staff salaries, and developing new programs.

6.Provide support and advice to the Chair about Departmental activities.

7.Attend Division Chief meetings, Faculty meetings, Medical Grand Rounds, and other Department- wide professional and social events.

8.Collaborate with other division chiefs and department faculty to support all of the Department's programs and activities

B. Academic consideration time. (.05 FTE)

II. Teaching 15%

The SIU Department of Medicine is committed to delivering the highest quality medical education across the learning continuum (e.g., medical school to residency to continuing education and faculty development).

A. Clinical Teaching (15% - included in Service time)

All full-time faculty members are expected to teach within the context of provision of clinical care.

1.Teach, mentor, and supervise individual students and residents during in-patient and out-patient consultations and follow-up visits.

2.Prepare lectures, seminars and rounds for students taking the Pulmonary/Critical Care elective.

B. Didactic Teaching (15%)

Beyond teaching within the context of provision of clinical care, all faculty members are expected to engage in formal, scheduled teaching outside the context of clinical care delivery.

1.Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for resident house staff, medical students and other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments.

2. Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division.

3. Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.

4. Provide lectures and conferences at hospitals in communities of Central and Southern Illinois.

III. Research and Advanced Training 0%

As defined by individual interest and in compliance with Department policy.

IV. Service (includes 7.5% Clinical Teaching effort) 60%

*Your full-time equivalent (CFTE) is 87.5% and includes 7.5% clinical teaching

A. Professional Services

1.Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.

2.Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.

3. Based on MGMA benchmarks and the calculated clinical FTE, achieve a minimum target X RVUs per year.

B. University, Hospital and Regional Services

1.Participate in University, SIU HC and hospital committees as requested.


Qualifications

Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.

Graduate of accredited medical school program.

Graduate of formal specialty training program in Pulmonary Medicine.

Diplomate of the American Board of Pulmonary Medicine (or of the Board of Internal Medicine with

eligibility for Pulmonary Board.)


Supplemental Information

The budgeted annual salary range is $367,000 to $403,700. The final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Additional incentive compensation may also be available for clinical work performed beyond the standard scope of responsibilities.
