Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and equipment vendors on design, installation, and commissioning of industrial machinery.
• Conduct equipment safety buyoffs with cross-functional teams.
• Perform risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and internal safety standards.
• Evaluate proposed changes to equipment/machinery to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Develop and continuously improve equipment safety standards.
• Identify safety risks and recommend corrective actions for continuous improvement.
• Create and deliver safety training related to equipment and machinery.
• Maintain detailed compliance documentation and records.
• Support EHS staff during investigations, inspections, audits, and learning teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience with industrial machinery safety.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, automation, and control systems.
• Familiarity with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO and related safety standards.
• Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits.
• Working knowledge of NEC, UL 508a, NFPA 79 electrical safety codes.
• Field experience with ISO 13849 OR NFPA 79 & ANSI B11.
• Ability to perform structured risk assessments (ISO 12100).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP/CFSE) or Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE).
• Experience in battery or EV manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and hazardous material inventories.
