The Opportunity

We are seeking a Manager, Client Programs & Events to join our Firm, based in the Houston office (hybrid). This position oversees all aspects of the initiation, sourcing, idea generation and production of in-person and virtual client events for Skadden's Houston office, including CLE (educational) seminars, webinars, dinners, receptions, and other functions supporting the office's practices and attorneys. The Manager, Client Programs & Events collaborates with the regional lead and business development teams to plan, implement, and execute client programs and events. This position is also responsible for monitoring industry trends and firm experience to identify and propose content for firm programs and external speaking opportunities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with the Assistant Director to lead and execute Houston-based programs and events, overseeing large-scale client events, client educational programming (CLE), and other special events.
    • Actively monitoring industry trends and recommends relevant content, topics, and speakers
    • Managing event logistics, providing strategic guidance to partners during the planning process, and overseeing contract negotiations as needed
    • Developing comprehensive marketing plans for events
    • Understanding MCLE accreditation standards and advising others on compliance requirements.
  • Evaluating and proposing external speaking roles for attorneys; recommending speakers and/or content and identifying support for attorney participation.
  • Collaborating with the business development team to identify target clients for in-house CLE and business development opportunities; managing staff resources to ensure successful execution.
  • Overseeing Houston event-related data tracking and management; reporting on program and event-related KPIs for client reviews, annual practice reviews, and other knowledge strategy reporting needs.
  • Managing details of Firm sponsorships at events and charitable dinners, ensuring alignment with Firm goals and client engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrating effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to facilitate strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external partners.
  • Managing Firm resources responsibly, ensuring efficient use of budget, staff, and materials for all events and programs.
  • Complying with and understanding Firm operations, policies, and procedures, ensuring all activities align with organizational standards.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Firm operations, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
  • Broad and thorough knowledge of events planning functions
  • Experience with database management (InterAction is a plus)
  • Familiarity with legal business issues and Fortune 500 companies
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Personally handles more complex issues/duties requiring independent exercise of discretion and judgment
  • Flexibility to travel
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of seven years related experience in a professional services environment

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

Salary Details

$120,000-$145,000
