Job Overview

The Safety and Environmental Specialist is responsible for leading the safety, health, and environmental programs at a designated manufacturing facility. This role documents all aspects and phases of safety and environmental programs, projects, and training; works with their Risk Control Manager or Director Risk Control to lead the planning, implementation, and integration of Risk Management safety, risk control, and business processes to maximize the operational capability to protect our people, product, and assets. The specialist also maintains 24-7 availability for crisis/incident management and emergency planning executing company requirements for an accident, severe weather events, site emergencies, environmental issues, etc. The Safety and Environmental Specialist oversees the Environmental Occupational Safety and Health management system and the Consolidated Management System at the manufacturing site location.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the EOSH management systems for manufacturing at their location, including the Consolidated Management System (CMS) system
  • Administers the EOSH system including documenting, recording, verifying, auditing, etc., and partners with local and corporate leadership
  • Understand and interpret the ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 45001 (Safety) standards for the manufacturing location
  • Directs all applicable Regulatory Management affairs (safety and environmental) for the manufacturing location and formulates solutions to minimize regulatory impact and future exposure
  • Administers crisis/incident management and emergency planning according to company requirements
  • Ensures training requirements for various safety and environmental topics have been scheduled, conducted, and documented at the local manufacturing facility
  • Participates in the local daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly management meetings as well as bi-weekly corporate meetings andvarious other meeting requirements throughout the year, including, onsite, virtual, or meetings requiring travel to centralized locations

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple assignments with critical deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with files and program organizational skills
  • Oversee Environmental Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) management systems including Consolidated Management System (CMS)
  • Compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 environmental and safety initiatives
  • Problem-solving skills with a focus on research into legal and regulatory matters
  • Experience with Workplace Safety, Risk Management, Environmental, Manufacturing Safety, Hazardous Materials, and Work Health Initiatives
  • Must be able to communicate to various levels of leadership in the facility as well as local and State regulatory agencies. Must be able to understand and interpret the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • This is a plant entry-level position in Risk Management
  • Based in one manufacturing facility and responsible for the health, safety, and environmental program management at that facility
  • Must be very organized, have time management, be able to balance multiple projects on several different timelines
  • Document and manage programs, projects, and routine training

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge acquired through 1 to up to 3 years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree preferred
  • Previous work experience in safety and risk control, book keeping, administrative, or system management
