HJF is seeking a Military Behavioral Health Social Worker II to assist with the VA-SAFEGUARD project, which focuses on veteran suicide prevention efforts and teaching related workshops. The ideal candidate will have experience with developing continuing education training materials, evidence-based therapies, adult learning and teaching, suicide prevention, and VA/Community-based IOP treatment for PTSD. Candidates with prior training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) and/or Problem Solving Therapy for Suicide Prevention (PST-SP) are strongly preferred.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences' Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Military Behavioral Health Social Worker II will assist with activities related to CDP's mission, which is to lead the development of a community of military culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military behavioral health. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) provides administrative and management support to the Center. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality behavioral healthcare that meets their unique needs.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.



  • Serves as a subject matter expert in standards of care and evaluation in VA/Community-based IOP treatment for PTSD.
  • Serves as a suicide prevention subject matter expert for the VA-SAFEGUARD project and across the Center, contributing to projects and programs where needed. Additional areas of focus are military culture and military/deployment-related behavioral health issues.
  • Assists with integrating the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of providing live trainings, and development of technical assistance tools to enhance and increase utilization of EBPs for PTSD care.
  • Assist with the development of surveys to examine stakeholder acceptability and ease of use of tools.
  • Serve as an active member/lead on team projects and assist with programming, strategic communications, metrics, and efficiencies.
  • Contribute to CDP's subject matter expert blog posts, podcasts, videos, infographics, asynchronous training materials, and other additional educational activities as needed. Prepare scholarly manuscripts for publication and presents at national and/or international conferences to disseminate the work conducted by the Center.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.



Education and Experience



  • Master's Degree required in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health required, Doctoral Degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of PTSD treatment provided in an IOP or residential setting, ideally having worked with military populations or veterans.
  • Knowledge of the VA's policies, procedures and programs for Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs for PTSD is preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum development of presentations, toolkits, and other materials for adult continuing education.
  • Experience delivering professional presentations to adult learners, including an ability to engage learners with different experience levels, respond to questions, and convey points clearly.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write professional correspondence, educational and marketing materials, and reports, as well as to provide briefings and updates to internal and external partners.
  • An active clinical behavioral health license to practice in any state/territory of the US.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Home Office Background Check.


Physical Capabilities



  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$122,500. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
