Business Loan Center Commercial Underwriting Officer
The Vice President, Commercial Underwriting Officer supports Comerica's Business Loan Center (BLC) and is independently responsible for the underwriting, documentation, and approval of small business requests in a high-volume production environment. Underwrites a variety of commercial loan types. Owns deal analyses and approval decision. Executes workflow according to established metrics and facilitates process improvement efforts.
*This position's office location will be moving to Farmington Hills, MI*
Position Responsibilities:
- Underwrites loan package for new deals. Reviews and completes accurate loan approval package and related underwriting including but not limited to related financial analysis, cash flow assessment, collateral review, and guarantor evaluation.
- Assess the risks inherent in the industry appropriate for the situation. Identifies policy exceptions and independently develop mitigants and structure modifications to address or eliminate them. Identifies and analyzes inconsistencies in customer data including spreads, aging's, projections, and other financial documents.
- Ensures complete and sufficient analytical commentary to present underwriting components. Evaluates strengths and weaknesses within each credit and identifies risk within underwriting summary.
- Renders final approval decision on loan requests for new deals.
- Finalizes risk ratings if required on transaction. Considers and discusses alternative structures and overall assessments with sales channel and relationship managers.
- Escalates credit deteriorating situations requiring additional action and review by management.
- Trains junior underwriters and support staff. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and internal controls.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- 6 years of experience underwriting complex consumer, small business or commercial underwriting, credit and/or lending experience
- Successful completion of a formal commercial credit training program or 8 years of commercial lending and/or credit underwriting experience
Work Best Category: Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday
