Under supervision, Urology technical assists with urology procedures such as cystoscopies, vasectomies, prostate biopsies.

Essential Job Statements

Assists various members of the team with patient throughput, stocking supplies, as well as other regulatory processes.

Rooming Assistance: Obtains patient history and vital signs. Explains procedures, documents care and communicates findings with clinic team and providers.

Procedure Assistance: Prepare patients, instruments, and supplies for minor and urological procedures such as cystoscopies, vasectomies and prostate biopsies, including assisting the nurse and provider in the procedure room.

Nurse Visit Assistance: Assist the Nurses with supplies and getting the nurse visit ready in the exam room.

Diagnostic Support: Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and perform basic tests such as ultrasonic bladder scans. Help operate the Cystoscopy machine tower and Prostate Biopsy machine equipment

Equipment and Supply Management: Set up and maintain urological equipment and appliances, ensure adequate supply levels, and perform minor equipment troubleshooting.

Clinical Flow and Environment: Maintain a clean and organized patient care environment, manage patient records, and ensure efficient patient flow through the clinic.

Room Turnover Support: Turning over exam rooms and procedure rooms to maintain flow.

Patient Population: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge and related competencies of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age, specific needs and to provide the equitable care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older).

Employment Qualifications

Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Education: Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician program through an accredited school. Trained in urological procedures through vocational or post-hire on-the-job physician training.

Licensing/ Certification

Licensure/Certification Required:

Licensure/Certification Preferred: BLS

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience: 1 year experience working as a Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to learn and apply complex concepts to their daily work.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Candidates must be professional, motivated, dependable, and have strong people skills.

Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc.

Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. * May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. *

May have periods of constant interruptions. Prolonged periods of working alone.
