To support our customers' complex mission requirements, we're constantly optimizing our architecture for speed of our earth observations, processing time and cost, storage cost, delivery tempo and resiliency for a complex set of mission requirements that range from nightly-news-worthy to background foundational mapping. We are looking for additional expertise to help us with the optimizations to support our global customer base operating across multiple clouds and on-premises environments to ensure we get the right data to those customers on-time, while being cost effective.

Responsibilities:

  • As Cloud Architect you will recommend and subsequently implement cloud optimization strategies to minimize cost while ensuring maximum mission value from Vantor's products for customers.

  • Engage with Maxar's architects and engineers to understand existing implementations and the requirements driving them.

  • Engage with the Engineering VPs to drive optimizations into the engineering baselines that underly Maxar products.

  • Serve as a member of the Cloud Center of Excellence driving the evolution of our corporate cloud operations and governance approaches. Through this you will be engaging with the COO and CTO to drive key optimizations as well as governance reforms while meeting corporate goals across mission performance, cost, compliance, and resiliency.

Requirements:

  • Must have recent experience with multi-cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and/or Oracle including their unique features and capabilities. Applicant must have deep experience with AWS and at least one additional provider.

  • Either (a) demonstrated experience with strategically placing workloads on the best cloud provider based on performance, cost and other requirements unique to each application or (b) designing and implementing products and tools that do so.

  • Understanding of cloud pricing models and the skills required to optimize costs across multiple environments through resource allocation, usage monitoring and governance.

  • Expertise in implementing robust security measures across diverse cloud environments, including data encryption, access controls and compliance regulations.

  • Expertise in strategic selection of cloud services from different providers for both avoidance of vendor lock-in and/or increased resilience.

  • Experience meeting the requirements of compliance frameworks. Examples include ISO9001, ISO27001, NIST800-171 or NIST800-53

  • Understanding of cybersecurity risks with global networks and operations and demonstrable risk management framework experience in applying mitigations for such risks.

  • Proficiency in monitoring cloud performance, identifying issues, and troubleshooting across different cloud environments.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related technical degree.

  • A minimum of ten years of experience deploying solutions to cloud environments and a minimum of 2 years of experience in each of two major cloud providers.

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a senior computing, architecture or systems engineering capacity with demonstrated competency driving enterprise, mission- and/or revenue-critical architecture(s).

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Existing Secret, Top Secret or Top Secret / SCI clearance.

  • Understanding of and experience with the services available in government clouds (FedRAMP, the C2E contract from CIA, and those of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability) at multiple security levels.

  • Understanding of and experience with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Program and the impact on managing Controlled Unclassified Information in and across cloud environments.

  • Experience briefing and working with executive level leadership, including VPs and C-level executives.
