Our Network Engineer III - Private position is responsible for performing simple to complex and diverse circuit design activities.Our Network Engineer III - Private is a mid senior level position, responsible for mentoring and backing up a team of Design & Implementation Engineers. The role is responsible for the design and delivery of managed wavelength services and managed data services. Projects may encompass greenfield builds, capacity augments, grooms, link engineering services, or decommission of circuits/systems. Responsible for managing the network design assignments and reject resolution, and is responsible to effectively communicate with internal order management personnel and various internal teams on the progress of the order fulfillment. Budgetary and engineering skills will be used to support various stakeholders (i.e. Business Units, Engineering, Operations, Tier III, Field Services, and Architecture) in the service delivery process. Network Engineer III - Private is responsible for meeting/exceeding daily and weekly performance targets. Network Engineer III - Private is also responsible to assist other team members and assist Management with training needs and peer to peer mentoring.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design planning, record creation and order fulfillment of Zayo's products throughout all Market Areas with a primary focus on design of Zayo's growth products.

  • General understanding of network QOS, IP routing, Ethernet switching (including 802.11q, 802.11p, 802.3af), and packet and waves tagging mechanisms.

  • Work with Service Activation and Field Technicians when issues arise during pre-build and customer turn up activities. Also helps troubleshoot post installation tickets when necessary to fulfill customer expectations.

  • Network Engineer III - Private may involve Project Management verbal assistance for complex customer orders and projects calls.

  • Design complex circuits to interface with other carriers or customer solutions.

  • Provide direction in the circuit design function of the Engineering Department for orders with transport and facilities required to meet identified circuit requirements.

  • Review orders for technical correctness and clarifies any design related items back to the responsible departments.

  • Maintain specific customer commitments and deadlines in the Zayo Salesforce and MSS database. Provides order status updates on the order when necessary for the Project Management groups. Maintains specific customer commitments and deadlines in the salesforce database.

  • Correct and update orders as necessary. Tracks assigned orders to ensure they are being coordinated in a timely manner.

  • May participate in the development and implementation of engineering standards and procedures.

  • Provide support to field operations to resolve complex circuit provisioning problems; reviews and verifies complex technical data in an effort to resolve service or order issues.

  • Track the installation of circuits to ensure orders are completed within established guidelines. Updates and corrects orders when necessary.

  • Exercise interpersonal skills in working with both internal and external customers.

  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.

  • Manage workload to identify critical issues and prioritize those items that must be completed

  • Serve as the interface between equipment vendor(s) and Zayo stakeholders as needed to validate technical specifications, hardware and software interoperability, and hardware delivery timelines.

  • Work around obstacles and roadblocks within carriers to obtain the priority required by Zayo to meet required due dates. Show initiative in getting work done.

  • Participate in operations-related projects, as needed.

  • Support manager during customer or network escalations as requested.

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties, including staying abreast of technology and network solutions and cross training when needed

Qualifications:

  • Requires the ability to meet inflexible deadlines; perform non-predictive multiple tasks; and handle customer conflict to a successful resolution.

  • Computer skills including experience using spreadsheet, word-processing database programs and typing.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of routers and other data hardware.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Data Networking and telecommunications, including understanding of basic wavelength and packet services: EoTDM, EoC, EoF, 3rd party transport, Metro and long haul systems through our own and customer facing Networks, Ethernet, TCP/IP. Experience with Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS). Products include, Private Wave, Private Data, Dedicated Internet, MPLS, VPLS, ISIS and Cloud Services.

  • Broad Knowledge with the following optical transport platforms

    o Ciena

    o Infinera

    o Nokia

    o ADVA

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and Google programs and project management software. Able to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions in controlled situations. Deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education, training and/or experience.Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years telecommunications and/or data networking experience.

  • Required Optical Link Engineering experience and working knowledge of Infinera, Ciena, Nokia DWDM platforms

  • Required Metasolv/M6 database experience

Estimated Base Salary Range: $77,100 - $118,600 USD/annually.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
