Job Summary

The Physical Therapist 1 (New Graduate/Entry Level) at the UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital is responsible for providing high-quality physical therapy services under the supervision of the Director of Therapy. This role involves planning, evaluating, and implementing individualized treatment programs to support patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.

The Physical Therapist 1 conducts evaluations, delivers evidence-based interventions, and documents all aspects of patient care in compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. This position requires sound judgment in clinical decision-making, documentation, and patient-related treatment issues while working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for assigned patients
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to support functional recovery
  • Provide therapeutic interventions in alignment with patient goals and best practices
  • Document patient care, progress, and outcomes in compliance with departmental standards
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate patient care
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, exercises, and strategies for continued recovery
  • Demonstrate professional judgment and adherence to ethical and regulatory guidelines

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • California Licensed Physical Therapist
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Graduated from an accredited physical therapy program (Bachelor's degree or higher) in the U.S., or completed requirements for foreign-trained physical therapists working in the U.S.
  • New graduate or entry-level professional with prior clinical or work experience supporting complex patients in inpatient rehab or acute care, overseeing the plan of care
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed physical therapist as required and assigned by the supervisory staff of Physical Therapy
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with hospital staff in a clear, concise, professional manner
  • Organizational and developmental skills
  • Skills and ability to work in stressful situations
  • Tact and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to provide and accept guidance and criticism
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with documentation in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system

Key Responsibilities

  • 90% - Patient Care: Provide physical therapy evaluations, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and deliver evidence-based interventions for patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings within the Rehabilitation Hospital
  • 5% - Education: Participate in educational activities
  • 5% - Other Duties: Complete miscellaneous assignments as directed

Work Environment
