HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to assist in research projects and/or development in collaboration with others for projects involving small animal imaging. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff. Solves problems of moderate complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment. This position will involve being a research assistant for radiotracers in the Positron Emission Tomography Lab and in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Lab.

This position will be in support of the Department of Radiology and Bioengineering, Biomedical Research Imaging Core located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD.

HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the Department of Radiology.

  • Performs laboratory research projects including collection and organization of data. Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
  • Ensures the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials.
  • Makes detailed observations about experiments. Provides quality control, trouble shooting, and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment.
  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation. Assists in the preparation of manuscripts and data for presentations at scientific meetings and publication in journals.
  • Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks. Performs data entry for research projects and may maintain data and database(s).
  • Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected tasks.
  • Assists in training and assisting outside researchers and students.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This will include attendance of and participation in required training for role such as radiation, radiation effects, and laboratory work with radioisotopes.
  • Serve a role as a supervised user for the Radiological Experimental Authorization (REA) that the BRIC REA PI holds.



Education and Experience



  • Associates degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust Clearance.


Physical Capabilities



  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.


Compensation



  • The hourly pay range for this position is $18.25-$27.88. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
