Madhani Lab - Full Specialist

Biochemistry & Biophysics

UC San Francisco

A Specialist position is currently available for immediate employment in the Madhani laboratory (madhanilab.ucsf.edu) in the University of California, San Francisco in the Genentech Hall Building (at the Mission Bay campus) to study the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans, which the Madhani lab has pioneered as a model pathogen and model organism. C. neoformans is a budding yeast, which is responsible for hundreds of thousands of infections worldwide in highly immunocompromised patients, including organ transplant patients and individuals infected with HIV.

The primary job duties include leading efforts to generate a genetic interaction map of C. neoformans using cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9-based methods that employ high-throughput sequencing and downstream computational analysis. Secondary duties will be to assist in the design and analysis of high-throughput genetic and tagging experiments. The selected candidate will work closely with research technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.

Required Qualifications:



  • PhD (or equivalent degree) in Genetics, Molecular or Cell Biology or related disciplines.
  • 4 years of postdoctoral experience.
  • 4 years of experience working with fungal pathogens.
  • 3 or more years of experience with high-through put sequencing including computational analysis.
  • 3 or more years of experience using CRISPR-based tools for manipulating fungal genomes.


See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,200-$194,800.
