Overview

Element has an excellent opportunity for a Safety, Health and Environment Director to support the Materials Testing West within our Aerospace and Energy business unit. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) regulations while driving program implementation, risk mitigation, and continuous safety culture improvement. The successful candidate will align site-level practices with Element's SHE strategic goals and objectives, foster a strong Zero Harm culture, and oversee workers' compensation administration, including injury reporting, claims management, and return-to-work programs.

Compensation: $135,000 - $150,000/year (Depending on Experience)

Eligible for: Annual Bonus Program & Monthly Phone Allowance



Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Culture

    Champion the "One Element Safety" culture, aligning with the company's Mission, Vision, and Values to promote a Zero Harm mindset.

  • Support Aerospace & Energy SHE strategic goals and objectives.

Program Implementation & Compliance

  • Implement and administer SHE programs, policies, and procedures across multiple sites in the Materials Testing East division.

  • Partner with laboratory leadership and local safety leaders to ensure compliance and consistency at the site level.

  • Conduct routine safety audits and inspections to verify adherence to Element's SHE standards.

  • Provide SHE technical guidance and training to leaders and employees.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Management

  • Facilitate accident/incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.

  • Support risk assessments, subcontractor safety controls, and loss prevention initiatives.

  • Lead SHE management system continuous improvement efforts.

  • Track and report KPIs to drive proactive performance improvements.

Workers' Compensation Administration

  • Oversee workers' compensation claims management in compliance with OSHA and state regulations.

  • Ensure timely injury reporting, thorough documentation, and accurate recordkeeping.

  • Lead injury investigations and recommend corrective/preventive measures.

  • Develop and administer a return-to-work program, collaborating with HR and site leaders on modified duty assignments.

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA 300 logs, regulatory reporting, and insurance carrier requirements.

  • Provide training for employees and supervisors on injury prevention, reporting, and workers' compensation policies.



Skills / Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or progress toward degree) in Occupational Safety, Risk/Loss Control, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

  • Minimum 3-8 years' experience in a Safety, Health & Environmental leadership role.

  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local SHE regulations and legislation.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to analyze safety data, calculate trends, and apply risk-reduction strategies.

  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills in complex, non-standardized situations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and present effectively to diverse audiences.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid driver's license and U.S. passport.

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire).

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple sites for audits, inspections, and training.

  • Ability to wear PPE and lift up to 50 lbs periodically.

  • Familiarity with hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and environmental compliance preferred.
