What you'll do as an Education Subject Matter Expert
- Lead preparation for and conduct meetings with AEM, subcontractors, and clients including U.S. Department of Education, state and local educational agencies, non-profits, foundations and education associations
- Facilitate technical assistance/professional development on complex topics in politically sensitive environments
- Serve as a supportive thought-partner or guide-on-the-side for clients, bringing experience without judgment
- Apply your existing content knowledge across a range of topics to support client needs and increase capacity
- Identify and support opportunities for expanding AEM's support and influence in the field of education at the federal and local level
- Understand the national landscape for relevant education topics such as teacher and leader development, educational access and choice, ESSA, use of AI in education, multi-lingual learners, and education transitions
- Provide remote and/or on-site support to clients, education stakeholders, and grantees
- Moderate virtual discussions, webinars, conference calls, and meetings
- Develop products, publications, blogs, reports, deliverables, and plans
- Collect, track, and use data to monitor support activities and drive improvements
- Identify gaps in approaches to support and create innovative solutions for clients and grantee stakeholders
- Collaboratively work with a team, including subcontractors
- Use knowledge management processes and protocols to keep information organized and accessible
Required Qualifications (What You'll Bring to the Role)
- Master's degree and minimum of ten (10) years' in an education-related role at a local educational agency, state, non-profit, federal or contractor organization
- Content expertise in at least three of the following areas: educator workforce development, school choice, educator credentialing, use of AI in education, implementation and monitoring use of evidence-based practices, multi-lingual learners, birth to age 5 education, STEM education, civics education, educational evaluation, or post-secondary transitions and student support
- In-depth experience with implementation of complex, multi-year projects
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills including presentations before small, medium, and/or large groups
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills with a practiced ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Experience with design and provision of technical assistance, educational data analysis, or grants management
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead team members in a hybrid environment
- Must be willing and able to travel to the Washington, DC metro area and other areas of the United States at least twice per year
- Ability to obtain a security clearance via a Public Trust background investigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience and existing relationships with the U.S. Department of Education, state education agencies, and education non-profits
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local contracting regulations and processes and an understanding of the dynamics and structures for federal contracts
- Strong preference will be given to candidates who have previously or are currently providing training, technical assistance, and/or professional development to grantees, states, local educational agencies, or other educational entities
