Compensation:

* Base Pay Range: $63,772 - $104,020 per year, based on experience

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Develop and implement clinical documentation education for physicians, clinicians, and CDI specialists. Use data to identify and target areas needing additional training.

Create and maintain CDI education presentations and routinely present to physicians and other clinicians.

Mentor and educate CDI staff.

Identify opportunities to improve physician clinical documentation and to provide an accurate clinical picture of the patient, including severity of illness, risk, and resource utilization.

Work closely with CD Specialists to identify areas of non-specific documentation and improve documentation templates in support of clinical treatment protocols.

Collaborate with the CDI Manager and other clinicians to facilitate the ongoing relevance of department-specific orientation content, educational materials, documentation tip sheets, and training programs/resources.

Assist the CDI Manager with the preparation of data and reports to evaluate the effectiveness and overall impact of the clinical documentation improvement program for presentation to Health Information Management Leadership, the CDI Executive Steering Committee, and other appropriate oversight committees.

Assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures, and lead team meetings/huddles.

Coordinate the quarterly audits and review outcomes with department leadership to identify areas of opportunity and implement education for sustainability.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of ICD-10 code and MS-DRG assignment, American Hospital Association Coding Guidelines, and Coding Clinics.

Extensive knowledge of complex disease processes.

Demonstrated competency in the teaching/learning process and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and adapt to the changing healthcare arena.

Excellent communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and presentation skills.

Proficiency in computer use, including electronic medical records (EMR), CDI software, electronic codebooks, Microsoft Office, and presentation programs.

Knowledge of federal, state, and private payer regulations as well as organization policies and procedures.

Working knowledge of quality improvement theory and practice, core measures, safety, and other required reporting programs.

Strong understanding of the requirements for clinical documentation, coding, and billing according to the rules of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days; or

Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) or (RCP-T) licensure by the Missouri Respiratory Care Board.

Three (3) years of clinical experience in an inpatient setting.

Three (3) years of experience working in a clinical documentation improvement program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a healthcare profession or education.

Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP) certification by the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS).

Educator experience.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
