The Principal Software Engineer will be a member of the Spacelabs R&D engineering team working on the development of care coordination software designed to enhance patient monitoring and streamline healthcare workflows integrated into both new and existing patient monitoring enterprise systems. This position requires a deep understanding of solid design and development practices and the ability to apply those to Spacelabs' product development. The person will be accountable for developing and delivering software that supports the next generation and existing care coordination and patient monitoring products. They will work with other cross-functional members to provide technical software-level expertise and solutions to engineering problems.

A key element of this role includes advocating for and designing products that meet the functional, performance, and cybersecurity needs of our customers. A strong systems approach to product development will be necessary in this role. You will spend your time as a hands-on engineer and a technical leader. Our team plays a key role in building software products and features. You will be involved in the architecture/design of new features and functionality, as well as the development, implementation, documentation, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the team and other cross-functional staff to define requirements related to care coordination software products.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews of software requirements, architecture, software design, connectivity interface design, and user interface design.
  • Lead in component design efforts. Understand and design according to existing interface specifications.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of engineering projects or portions of engineering projects.
  • Mentor other engineers to help them grow both technically and professionally.
  • Design, write, debug, document, test, and release software used for communication, storage, and analysis of patient physiological information in an agile development environment.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of software deliverables, including design documentation, unit tests, and other artifacts required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • 12+ years' relevant software experience is required.
  • 8+ years of programming in Java utilizing Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and techniques, or equivalent knowledge, is required.
  • 4+ years of SQL experience required.
  • Proficiency with Spring Boot framework required.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS/JavaScript is required.
  • Experience in utilizing multi-threading techniques is required.
  • Experience with hosting applications in cloud environments such as AWS (preferred), Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.
  • Experience with distributed computing and caching extraction is preferred.
  • Experience with recent UI frameworks such as AngularJS and ReactJS is preferred.
  • Experience in product development of medical devices under Design Control (21 CFR Part 820), ISO 14971 and developing to and compliance with IEC62304 is a big plus.
  • Familiarity with working in a regulated development environment (finance, defense, aerospace, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with HL7 standards is a plus.
  • Familiarity with web services, data interfaces, and messaging queue technologies is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of software development tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc., and version control such as Git, etc.
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Delivery and Agile development.
  • Experience working effectively with US teams and international teams, in both Europe and India.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B visa status).
