Cloud Solution Architect (Healthcare Focus) | Grand Rapids, MI | Hybrid
As a Cloud Solution Architect you will engage with customers to understand their business drivers, assess application and service portfolios, and design reliable and cost-effective cloud architectures. You will champion the solutioning process with a structured approach, partnering with customers, Sales, and other teams within Vervint. You will have conversations and host interviews with different stakeholders at various levels in customer organizations, such as:
- With a Business Leader about how cloud technology can enable reaching their goals, pursue new opportunities, or optimize infrastructure costs.
- With an Enterprise Architect about cloud migration strategies, hybrid cloud architectures, security models, identity and access management, or network design patterns.
- With an IT Professional about infrastructure as code, cloud monitoring, automation, and continuous deployment.
- With a Developer about cloud-native application design and infrastructure requirements.
This role will work closely with sales, delivery leadership, and project management to ensure that customer requirements are thoroughly understood and reflected in solution offering development. The Solution Architect will spend most of their day interacting with several customer stakeholders, including Developers, Team Leads, Engineering Directors, and CxOs primarily within healthcare organizations.

What You'll Accomplish:
Client Delivery:
- Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of cloud solution components.
- Identifies potential risks, issues, and dependencies related to cloud architecture and implementation.
- Provides technical leadership to project teams, partnering with Project Managers to define the work breakdown, technical approach, and implementation strategy.
- Thrives in ambiguous situations, working proactively to gain clarity, establish direction, and create actionable plans for moving forward.
Domain Competency:
- Designs comprehensive, scalable, and integrated cloud solutions across AWS and Azure platforms, meeting the business objectives and technical requirements of our clients.
- Creates and owns the overall cloud architecture of the solution, including hybrid and multi-cloud architectures that integrate with existing on-premises datacenter infrastructure.
- Defines the architecture vision, principles, and standards to guide the development of cloud solution components and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Analyzes requirements and develops cloud solution strategies, migration architectures, and roadmaps that address client needs and align with business goals.
- Designs and oversees the integration of cloud services with on-premises systems, applications, and data sources to ensure seamless interoperability and data exchange.
- Evaluates and recommends appropriate cloud services, integration technologies, protocols, and standards to support solution requirements.
- Leverages infrastructure as code principles using Terraform and other automation tools to create repeatable, scalable cloud deployments.
Business Development/Pre-Sales:
- Shares responsibility for SOW creation with sales, defining the outcomes required for cloud solutions based on business requirements.
- Understands healthcare industry requirements, compliance standards (HIPAA, HITRUST), and technology needs to position appropriate cloud solutions.
Practice Development:
- Creates detailed cloud solution documentation, including architecture diagrams, technical specifications, infrastructure as code, and design documentation to communicate and document architectural decisions and solution components.
- Establishes and enforces architectural governance processes and controls to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with architectural standards, security requirements, healthcare regulatory guidelines, and cloud best practices.
- Stays updated on industry trends, emerging cloud technologies, and best practices within cloud architecture and healthcare IT.
- Actively participates in professional development activities, such as training, conferences, and certifications, to enhance your skills and capabilities.
People Management:
- Keeps the team aligned with the technical outcomes and cloud architecture vision.
- Provides technical leadership and guidance to project teams to ensure the successful delivery of cloud solution components.
- Partners with Project Managers to define work breakdown structures, technical approach, and team execution strategy.
- May play a technical project manager role on smaller, single-domain projects alongside a project manager.
- Mentors and coaches team members on cloud architectural concepts, design patterns, and best practices.
- Mentors the delivery team to be capable of delivering the cloud solution without their presence. Starting with heavy involvement on Day 1 and trending to no involvement on the last day.
- Mentors others that are working toward a Cloud Solution Architect role.
Client Management:
- Collaborates with clients and stakeholders to understand their business needs, functional requirements, and technical constraints, particularly within healthcare and related industries.
- Maintains a relationship with owners of the business need and leverages the relationship both to facilitate the sale of cloud solutions, but also to facilitate between delivery teams and the client during delivery.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with client stakeholders at the manager and director level, serving as a trusted advisor and strategic partner.
- Provides the client coaching and strategy specifically on how to evolve infrastructure, cloud adoption, or IT organization to deliver stated business goals, often with a high-level cloud technology roadmap.
- Presents cloud solution designs and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and project teams, effectively communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What You'll Bring:
The Cloud Solution Architect role is a very technical role - you must be broadly competent across cloud platforms, infrastructure, security, DevOps, networking, and application modernization, with deep expertise in at least 2-3 of those areas. On the business side, the ability to connect technology with measurable business value is critical to a Cloud Solution Architect's success.
Technical Expertise:
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification or equivalent experience required
- Significant expertise and experience in designing and delivering complex cloud solutions on both AWS and Azure platforms
- Proven background in on-premises datacenter infrastructure, including virtualization, networking, storage, and compute, with the ability to design hybrid cloud architectures
- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code and cloud automation
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, patterns, and methodologies, including Well-Architected Framework principles, cloud security, and compliance
- Demonstrated experience in diagramming and documenting cloud solution architecture
- Experience with cloud migration strategies, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and cloud-native transformations
Consulting & Leadership
- Proven experience in consulting, either as a consultant or architect within a consulting organization
- Comfortable navigating ambiguous situations, bringing structure and clarity to undefined problems, and creating actionable plans for moving forward
- Experience providing technical leadership to project teams, partnering with Project Managers to define work breakdown, technical approach, and delivery strategy
- Strong track record of building and mentoring self-sustaining project teams throughout significant engagements
- Experience building task breakdowns and contributing solution overviews, outcomes, and requirements/limitations for SOWs
Industry & Business Acumen
- Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred, with understanding of healthcare technology landscapes, compliance requirements, and industry-specific challenges
- Experience working with at least one client in setting an IT or cloud strategy to accomplish their stated business goals
- Understanding of the "Trusted Advisor" model
- A mindset that is comfortable working at the intersection of technology and business
- Ability to connect cloud technology solutions with measurable business outcomes and ROI
Soft Skills
- Excellent technical leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others and build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and adapt to evolving business requirements and technical landscapes
- Effective at communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, or master's degree, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field OR equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- At least 7 years of success in complex technical sales and deployment projects, architecture, design and implementation.
- At least 3 years of experience leading technical teams.
- At least 2 years of success in cloud transformation or digital transformation roles
- Consulting experience required - must have worked as a consultant or architect within a consulting organization
