Facility Operations Lead

  • Oversees a staff of operators and operations-related workers who perform a wide range of facility, equipment and machine operations to accomplish core EnergySolutions work. Helps develop and implement operations policies and procedures and takes steps to ensure company objectives are met and maintained. These tasks are necessary to ensure smooth company operations and compliance with company policies and procedures and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns and oversees the daily work of EnergySolutions operations staff. Performs the work of subordinates as necessary.
  • Establishes schedules and methods for providing operations services. Identifies resource needs. Reviews needs with the Operations manager. Allocates resources accordingly.
  • Determines equipment, machinery, material, supplies and tools to be used. Orders machinery, equipment, materials, supplies and tools as necessary. Transfers equipment and staff from one project to another as necessary.
  • Monitors and controls machinery, equipment, materials, supplies and tools. Maintains accurate records on inventories. Conducts annual physical inventories.
  • Ensures machinery, equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.
  • Recommends replacement of existing machinery and equipment.
  • Makes recommendations to management on equipment improvements and manpower forecasts. Determines the efficiency of operations and recommends solutions to any problems identified.
  • Inspects work areas on a daily basis to identify needed repairs and to verify completion of assigned tasks.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work areas and reports any conditions that are not correctable to the Operations manager immediately.
  • Assigns priority to operations work orders and processes them.
  • Initiates contract work when work cannot be performed by EnergySolutions Operations staff. Monitors and inspects contract work.
  • Is responsible for maintaining internal controls for safeguarding Operations assets and financial information.
  • Analyzes periodically the workload and personnel needs of the Operations unit. Recommends increases and decreases in number of staff.
  • Ensures Operations staff is adequately trained, equipped and motivated so operations work can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner. Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the Operations business unit.
  • Trains, develops and motivates subordinates to improve their present performance and to prepare for higher-level jobs.
  • Provides direction and guidance to Operations staff on operations-related matters.
  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills
  • Detailed knowledge of operations processes, facilities, services, practices, procedures and terminology
  • Detailed knowledge of operations machinery, equipment, materials and tools
  • Detailed knowledge of occupational hazards and the corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of tasks
  • General knowledge of local, state and federal health and safety regulations [e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)]
  • General understanding of how to interpret and assess compliance with government requirements
  • Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously
  • Ability to read and understand existing and planned facility drawings, plans, schematics and specifications
  • Ability to establish and maintain a variety of records, files and operational systems using a computer
  • Ability to develop and communicate work steps required to maintain and repair existing and planned machinery, equipment and tools
  • Ability to work irregular hours and be on-call at all times.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including a respirator
  • Ability to work and oversee work at elevated heights
  • Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
  • Ability to wear protective equipment such as: goggles, hard hat, steel toe boots, and full body protective clothing
  • Ability to see close and distance; perceive depth; adjust focus; peripheral vision; basic hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, handle, grip, and reach above or below shoulder
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend/stoop, crouch, squat/kneel and twist at the waist
  • Ability to work inside an office or outside
  • Ability to work around moving objects/hazardous machines, on slippery/uneven walking surfaces, and operate machinery
  • Ability to work with others and perform under deadline pressure
  • Certified hazardous waste worker, radiation worker, and respirator medical qualification
  • Forklift certification
