A Brief Overview

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking an Exercise Lab Manager for their Cardiology department. This position will be Monday-Friday and the shift will be dependent upon the operational need.

Under the guidance of the Cardiology Clinical Program Director and Lab Medical Director, the Exercise Lab Manager manages and leads all administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the Exercise Lab within the Cardiac Center, which includes the following: planning, organizing, staffing, budgeting, growing, and leading program activities.

The Exercise Lab Manager will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of the Cardiac of the Exercise Lab. In collaboration with the Cardiology Clinical Program Director and Medical Directors of the Exercise Lab, this role will include: responsibility for the overall technical, administrative, fiscal, and operational leadership of the Cardiac Exercise Lab. Oversight of the operating and capital budgets as well as the financial health; support the development and design of clinical, educational, cardiac rehabilitation and research protocols within the Labs.

What you will do

  • Program Management
  • Ensure 100% compliance with hospital standards for quality control and infection control.
  • Develop core curriculum and present the science of pediatric exercise physiology to other departments within the CHOP system through invited lectures at least once per year.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed within the confines of the lab and hospital.
  • Evaluate efficacy of individual programs through communication to referring physicians.
  • Communicate policy and institutional goals.
  • Ensure appropriate attendance at all hospital leadership meetings and facilitate planning meetings
  • Assist in the development of all potential facility planning projects related to the program.
  • Attend all meetings to evaluate standards of practice for the program.
  • Develop all exercise prescriptions and evaluate treatment for those candidates identified as requiring exercise rehabilitation enrolled in the program.
  • Exercise Lab Testing
  • Ensure adequate physician coverage for all exercise-related services.
  • Supervise Inpatient and Outpatient Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Ensure the calibration, operation and maintenance of all laboratory equipment.
  • Recruit all eligible patients from Cardiology, Pulmonary, and other departments within the CHOP system.
  • Develop exercise prescriptions.
  • Develop recommendations for home therapy and follow-up for all patients.
  • Staff Management
  • Manage and mentor exercise physiologists/specialists.
  • Ensure all personnel are up-to-date on all certifications and mandatory education.
  • Complete all evaluations by anniversary dates.
  • Maintain and prepare accurate time and attendance records.
  • Organize and facilitate monthly laboratory meetings.
  • Research
  • Present original research projects at national or international meetings/conferences.
  • Ensure projects are coordinated according to IRB and hospital standards.
  • Assist in the analysis and development of research-related findings for the purposes of publication of findings from the core laboratory research projects.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and databases of research studies for the reporting of efficacy of research protocols.
  • Prepare and manage research budgets.
  • Maintain all rehab data for the evaluation of efficacy and research purposes.
  • Develop all research protocols to ensure safety and feasibility of research protocols.
  • Serve as liaison between other hospital departments for the development of research protocols.
  • Teaching/Training
  • Responsible for in-service/training of pediatric fellows in the field of pediatric exercise physiology during clinical rotations through the Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
  • Responsible for training visiting Physicians and technicians from outside hospitals in the field of pediatric exercise physiology
  • In-Service and Training for Medical Students, Fellows, Attending and Visiting Physicians, Area Colleges, and College Student Interns in the Field of Pediatric Exercise Medicine and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Train all ancillary staff including nurses, technicians, physical therapist, and fellows involved in rehabilitation.
  • Conduct annual in-services for training of exercise technicians, cardiology and pulmonary Fellows and Residents.
  • Administrative
  • Track revenue and expense reports.
  • Oversee and approve purchase orders.
  • Oversee charges and billing of services to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and manage operating, capital, and monthly budgets.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology and related fields - Required
  • Master's Degree Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology and related fields - Preferred
  • Doctorate Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology and related fields - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years Previous clinical experience - Required
  • At least five (5) years Leadership, management, supervisory experience - Required
  • At least five (5) years Pediatric clinical experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Certification issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) required. - upon hire - Required

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
