Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Career Counselor in the Center for Career Development (
CDC) will assist the two career counselors at the Law School in Newark. This is a temporary part-time positions until such a time that additional counselor(s) is hired.
The Career Counselor will assist mission critical work for our students and alumni, including but not limited to the below tasks.
- Conducts outreach to Class of 2025 graduates
- Gathers information and assessing employment outcomes based on ABA guidelines
- Enters information in Excel spreadsheets
- Submits employment data into Symplicity graduate reports
- Assists with the compilation of data in tables and charts
- Reviews and update guides, timelines, and additional web materials
- Corresponds with students and faculty members regarding faculty letters of recommendation
- Processes clerkship related paperwork - recommender agreement forms, letters of recommendation
- Formats and proofreads faculty letters of recommendation
- Creates PDFs of individualized letters for applications to the NJ Supreme Court and Appellate Division

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of counseling, career services or marketing experience, preferably in a Law school environment
- Ability to aggressively market the law school to attorneys, recruiters and other legal professionals and employers
- Demonstrates exemplary judgment and be able to make decisions independently within defined practices and procedure
- Possesses exemplary administrative, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as excellent oral and written proficiency

- J.D.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of legal environments and legal practice experience
