Job Title: HR Generalist

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Manager, Human Resources Operations

Flex Work Eligible! This position qualifies for the Flexible Work Policy. Employees receive 75 work days annually to work from home! The initial amount of days is prorated for the first year based on start date.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The HR Generalist provides day-to-day operational support to the HR Operations team, ensuring efficient delivery of HR services and compliance with state and federal requirements. This role is responsible for supporting key HR processes such as onboarding, orientation, occupational health, global mobility administration, and employee engagement programs. The HR Generalist also serves as the primary backup for the HR Representative (DER support) in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including FRA, FMCSA, and FTA requirements. This position plays an integral role in maintaining the quality and consistency of HR services in alignment with Loram's ICARE values.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

HR Service Center Support



  • Serves as the first point of contact for employees, responding to HR inquiries through service channels and supporting the administration of key HR processes, policies, and systems.
  • Coordinates and facilitates new hire onboarding and orientation sessions on a rotating basis and assist with new hire class coordination, including class logistics, I-9 documentation, and completion of compliance requirements.
  • Assists in managing HR transactions such as unemployment claims, employee records maintenance, compliance documentation, and contractor assignment tracking.
  • Supports the administration of employee leave programs (FMLA, ADA, personal, medical, parental, military), working closely with the Leave Administrator to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
  • Participates in performance review cycles, exit interviews, and organizational chart updates, ensuring accurate documentation and timely completion of required actions.
  • Other duties or projects may be assigned.


Compliance and Specialized Administration



  • Provides backup support for Designated Employer Representative (DER) functions, including 24/7 rotating phone coverage and coordination with drug and alcohol testing service agents for compliance with DOT and company policies.
  • Coordinate pre-employment and occupational health processes, including background checks, medical and drug testing, and communication of results to internal stakeholders.
  • Monitors and tracks new hire compliance steps using multiple third-party systems and assist with the resolution of payroll overpayment issues.


Employee Engagement and Recognition



  • Supports the implementation and communication of employee engagement and recognition programs, including service awards, peer recognition, milestone celebrations, and company-wide events.
  • Partners with HR leadership and the events Coordinator to ensure smooth execution of engagement initiatives and assist with tracking participation and gathering employee feedback for continuous improvement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, psychology, business management, international business, or a related field.


Experience:



  • 3+ years of human resources experience with demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws, audit practices, and DOT regulations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with employment recordkeeping.
  • Strong work ethic aligned with Loram's mission and values.
  • Problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement.


Preferred Qualifications, Licenses/Certifications:



  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP)
  • Experience in fast-paced environments, railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or similar industries
  • DER Certification under DOT 49 CFR Part 40
  • Familiarity with FRA Part 219, Drug & Alcohol Testing Rules

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.

Starting pay for the position is between $66,600- $96,600.
