Job Title: Coverage Litigation Specialist

Division: Group Claims

Location: United States

Reports to: As per Beazley's organization chart

Key Relationships: Group Claims Management Team including the Chief Claims and Litigation Officer ("GCMT") , Claims Team Leaders ("CTLs"), Compliance Risk Management, Internal Audit, People and Culture, own staff, clients, brokers, and key external vendors and partners.

Job Summary: To support Beazley's vision of being the highest performing sustainable specialist insurer by facilitating and fostering a collaborative, efficient, and best practices-focused approach to coverage litigation across the team. Responsible for providing entity level coverage litigation coordination to ensure a consistent approach across the claims team, while developing best practices that fit the Beazley model for dispute management.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Assist with the execution of the Beazley claims vision.
  • Work with the GCMT to develop, oversee, and contribute to the group claims coverage litigation strategy and vision.
  • Share and develop coverage litigation best practices both within your team and across Group Claims.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes and assess the operational impact on the management of claims in coverage litigation.
  • Responsible for developing and executing a strategy to share information and collaborate with GCMT and CTLs to ensure consistency in coverage litigation management.

Coverage Litigation Oversight and Support:

  • Leverage specialized knowledge of coverage litigation to lead, influence, diagnose and develop recommendations to achieve an integrated and seamless claims coverage litigation approach across Group Claims.
  • Responsible for developing a uniform strategy to address coverage litigation to drive best practices both within the claims team and, where relevant, to other teams.
  • Identify, provide and cascade market intelligence on the overall coverage litigation environment, emerging exposures and litigation trends that may impact overall business strategy.
  • Oversee the structure and organizational methods for coverage-litigated claims to ensure an effective, efficient and consistently applied approach for handling of coverage litigation across Group Claims
  • Act as resource and, when requested, lead cross-functional claims initiatives to ensure collaboration and consistency with respect to monitoring coverage decisions that impact the various teams.
  • Set the strategy for and oversee central coverage litigation resources for Group Claims to provide consistent information on mandatory disclosures, litigation guidelines and processes, and discovery processes.
  • Responsible for identifying coverage litigation training needs for Group Claims and developing and executing training programs.
  • Responsible for creation and oversight of a system of management to track cases in coverage litigation and ensure alignment on progress and resources needed to support the Group Claims coverage litigation process.
  • Responsible for managing and running eDiscovery requests for production, initial disclosures, and coverage investigations on behalf of Group Claims.
  • When necessary, liaise with Claims Business Management Team ("CBMT") and Compliance on regulatory enquiries including market examinations, supporting any requests for your team's coordination or production of documents, the answering of questions, and making staff available for interview.

Vendor Management:

  • Coordinate with GCMT and CTLs to ensure optimization of Beazley's spend on legal, litigation vendors and claims adjustment support services.
  • In coordination with CBMT, proactively review data regarding all third-party professionals working on coverage litigation to ensure claims service requirements, claims best practices and cost efficiency.

Staff Management:

  • Ensure that own staff have terms of reference setting out their responsibilities and reporting lines.
  • Ensure that people are recruited, deployed and developed to anticipate and meet current and future needs.
  • Ensure that all employees have the knowledge and the skills necessary to perform effectively in their given roles and responsibilities.
  • Review employees' performance and conduct biannual performance appraisals.
  • Identify and address training needs across the team.
  • Mentor team members and provide input into longer-term career planning and progression.
  • Ensure Beazley's "Treating Customers Fairly" policy is understood and adhered to by all team members.
  • Identify and promptly address any performance issues within the team, with Beazley Group guidelines, as required.

Operational:

  • Work with GCMT to imbue a continuous improvement culture within the team leveraging standardized processes and shared service functions as appropriate.
  • Support Head of Claims Service and Strategy in preparing report to relevant management groups.
  • Work with the GCMT and Group Claims in the continual development and implementation of Beazley's claims controls standards.

Conflicts of Interest:

  • Adhere to Beazley's Conflicts of Interest policy, alert the appropriate person to any potential conflicts of interest and take steps to resolve them promptly.
  • Immediately advise Chief Claims and Litigation Officer if any Beazley employee seeks to exert undue influence on you or any other team member to act improperly in the management of any claim.

This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards, and customer relationship management.

  • Juris Doctorate

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $175,000 - 185,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
