CHEC SW Intern

Spring 2026 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC. Expected program dates are January 20 - April 24, 2026. Anticipated working hours will be 20-to-30 per week, around class schedules. Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

Note: Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future. Therefore, in order to be considered for this position, you must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship .

The CHEC SW Intern will work closely with Development and Test to support our growing product line of Point of Sale solutions, in a fast-paced, highly technical and continually evolving business. The ideal candidate will have some background working in the Retail Industry while developing their professional expertise in their area of specialization.

Areas of Expertise & Special Skills:
  • Software development skills
  • Work with interdisciplinary design teams, such as those for hardware, mechanical, and software
  • Write and test software related to our CHEC platform
  • Practical experience developing software in Java and C++
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-driven with exceptional analytical and critiquing skills
  • Strong ability to solve problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to function a member of a small team.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Work with team to create/modify code for self checkout systems
  • Work with team to test code on self checkout systems
  • Work with team to debug defects that arise
  • Learn about how our products go from an idea to a fully-fledged product
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

The candidate will be working on drawings and designs for a next generation point of sale product.

This role involves hands on designing using SolidWorks.
