Summary

The Deriva Energy Technical Training Manager is responsible for the design and execution of training strategies for wind, solar and battery operations across the United States. This role manages the technician development and qualification process, ensuring technicians possess the knowledge, skills and ability to safely and effectively support field operations. As a strategic partner to leadership and operations, this role drives workforce readiness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement while scaling training for both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training Strategy & Leadership: Define and execute the organizational training vision, ensuring alignment with business priorities, safety standards, and operational readiness

  • Team Management: Lead and develop technical trainers setting clear goals and ensuring accountability for program quality, timelines, and trainee outcomes

  • Onboarding & Proficiency Ownership: Design and manage the end-to-end onboarding process, ensuring new hires are fully prepared, trained to proficiency, and ready for seamless transition into operations

  • Training Timelines & Delivery: Own training schedules, balancing business needs, trainer capacity, and trainee readiness

  • Ensure timely delivery of initial and recurrent training while maintaining high quality standards

  • Curriculum & Content Oversight: Direct the creation and continuous improvement of training content, ensuring it is accurate, engaging, and tailored for diverse learning styles

  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all programs meet Deriva Energy and client requirements

  • Audit training records, oversee remediation training, and ensure documentation integrity

  • Operational Partnership: Collaborate with Operations leadership to forecast staffing needs, align training capacity, and validate that trainees are fully competent before handoff

  • Performance Analytics: Monitor trainee performance and proficiency metrics, analyzing trends to improve program design and delivery. Provide actionable insights to leadership

  • Continuous Improvement: Anticipate business and industry changes (e.g., fleet, mission, regulatory updates) and adapt training strategies accordingly

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the key advisor to Operations leadership and customers on workforce readiness, training outcomes, and future needs

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Organizational Development, or related field

  • Five (5) years or more of progressive experience in training management, with at least 1 year or more leading managers and cross-functional teams

Desired Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years or more of progressive experience in training management, with at least five (5) years or more leading managers and cross-functional teams

  • Proven success in overseeing both training delivery teams and content development functions

  • Global Wind Organization Qualified Trainer

  • Strong background in compliance and regulatory training

  • Experience advising leadership and managing relationships with external clients and vendors

  • Experience in renewable energy industry

  • Knowledge of Global Wind Association qualification standards and ability to develop and maintain GWO Qualified training programs

  • Proven ability to design and manage structured training pipelines from onboarding through proficiency

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and curriculum development

  • Deep understanding of training compliance requirements and industry best practices

  • Demonstrated success in leading managers and training content teams

  • Expertise in project management and timeline ownership, ensuring programs are delivered on time and with measurable impact

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to track trainee performance, identify skill gaps, and adjust training strategies

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align operations, leadership, and training functions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, evolving environment with flexibility to travel as needed

  • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive decisions and measure training impact.

  • Certifications in Training & Development, Instructional Design, or Safety Management

Working Conditions

  • This role is based in Charlotte, NC

  • The role requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional bending, reaching, or light physical movement (e.g., stooping, kneeling, or crouching).

  • Work is typically performed in an indoor office setting with extended periods spent working at a computer

  • Some occasional work may occur in outdoor or well-ventilated facility environments, depending on project needs
