Organizational Unit Overview
Academic Library Services ( ALS) is part of Academic Affairs and reports through the Provost/Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. ALS serves East Carolina University faculty, students, staff, and community by providing library resources and services to support the mission of the University.
Job Duties
60% Public Circulation Service:
This position is responsible for independently managing the Sunday and evening operation of the department and provides courteous service to patrons at the Circulation & Interlibrary Loan service desk at scheduled times including weekends and holidays, as needed. Duties at the service desk include: checking library materials in and out, collecting and processing payments, assisting with requests for materials not on the shelf and making referrals to other library departments, supervising student assistants, ensuring the book drops are emptied, answering directional and basic reference questions at the circulation desk, over the phone, via e-mail, and online chat. The position also assists patrons with circulating equipment, including laptops, desktop computers, printers, scanners, cameras, projectors, and other equipment.

25 % Back-up Technology Manager:
This position will assist the departmental technology manager with processing circulating equipment, including inventory, cleaning, relabeling, and other maintenance projects for equipment. The position will provide training to patrons regarding circulating equipment and other department equipment and assist with basic computer troubleshooting in the absence of the Technology Manager. The position will also assist in reviewing department's equipment webpages for necessary updates.

10% Office Supply Coordination and Student Supervision:
This position maintains and orders office supplies. The position may also supervise the circulation desk and stacks student employees. The position may train students on tasks and expectations in the absence of the Stacks and Student Managers, follows up on concerns with appropriate coaching and disciplinary actions, and may participate in student employee evaluations.

5% Committee Service, Professional Development, and Other Duties as Assigned:
The position may serve on library and university committees, taskforces, and projects. This position is encouraged to take advantage of professional development opportunities. The position may be assigned other duties as needed.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Academic library experience; customer service experience with a commitment to providing high quality service while establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with all patrons and personnel; proficiency with Microsoft Office; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work consistently and reliably in an unsupervised capacity.
