Position Summary

Performs technical maintenance and repair of either instrumentation or electrical and control equipment in support of Prince William Water's maintenance programs. The work involves maintaining and repairing a variety of electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment, appliances, and devices using specialized test equipment and instruments. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions

Instrumentation

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and repairs on Instrumentation equipment including, but not limited to pressure transmitters, magnetic flow meters, etc.
  • Assess and complete performance checks on equipment such as level controllers, pressure transmitters, etc., and record and validate instrument performance.
  • Make adjustments to Instrumentation equipment identified as not performing up to specifications.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions, replace faulty equipment, and verify standards.
  • Utilize appropriate simulation equipment to validate a proper loop function.
  • Provides detailed analysis of Instrumentation equipment and follow-up on preventive maintenance.
  • Utilize appropriate equipment-specific tools, such as amp meters, process calibrators, and digital multi-meters, for Instrumentation equipment testing and repair as needed.
  • Communicate and work with other Instrumentation and Electrical Technicians on daily work assignments, projects, and tasks.
  • Write clear and concise general notes regarding daily maintenance work using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and respond to emails.
  • Prep sites for safety based on tasks and utilize appropriate advanced safety precautions as required (i.e. guidelines found on SDS, safety glasses, ear protection, hard hat, gas monitoring, etc.).
  • Interact with customers to identify root causes of malfunctions or problems and assist with identifying solutions.
  • Document equipment problems and solutions.
  • Provide training for new employees on existing equipment and systems.
  • Participate in and complete rotational training.
  • Operate a Prince William Water vehicle.
  • May be deemed essential at any time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Electrical
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment and wiring including, but not limited to motors, breakers, etc.
  • Disconnect, connect, and rewire electrical wiring according to the NFPA 70 (NEC), 70E & 70B, and current Virginia uniform statewide building code while installing, modifying, and maintaining Authority equipment.
  • Diagnose failed motors and electrically prepare for motor removal and replacement connection.
  • Verify proper performance of newly installed electrical equipment.
  • Records Electrical readings compares to specifications, and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Provide detailed analysis of electrical equipment and follow-up on preventive maintenance.
  • Utilize appropriate equipment-specific tools and safely remove electrical equipment from service before initiating repairs or testing.
  • Communicate and work with other Instrumentation and Electrical Technicians on daily work assignments, projects, and tasks.
  • Write clear and concise general notes regarding daily maintenance work using the CMMS system and respond to emails.
  • Prep sites for safety based on tasks and utilize appropriate advanced safety precautions as required (i.e. guidelines found on SDS, safety glasses, ear protection, hard hat, gas monitoring, etc.).

Essential Skills and Experience

Instrumentation

  • Possesses and demonstrates working knowledge of the methods and procedures of the Instrumentation trade and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the field.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of, and ability to use the tools, equipment and materials used in the instrumentation trade, as well as basic mathematics, computer use and English.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs of low complexity to a variety of Instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Possesses a knowledge of and ability to use Prince William Water's Information Technology systems, including GIS, SCADA, CMMS, as well Microsoft Office.
  • Able to operate a Prince William Water vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to follow established Prince William Water policies and procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with others.
Electrical
  • Possesses and demonstrates working knowledge of the methods and procedures of the electrical trade and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the field.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of, and ability to use the tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade, as well as basic mathematics, computer usage, and English.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs to a variety of electrical equipment.
  • Possesses a knowledge of and ability to use the Authority's Information Technology systems, including GIS, SCADA, CMMS, as well Microsoft Office.
  • Able to operate a Prince William Water vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to follow established Prince William Water policies and procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with others.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of related experience in Instrumentation or Electrical work.
  • Possesses a combination of education and experience as described above.
Required Licenses/Certifications and Other Special Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license consistent with Prince William Water policy requirements.
  • Successfully complete Prince William Water testing requirements for the position.
  • Possess a valid Virginia Journeyman Electrical License or possess a validCertified Control Systems Technician(CCST) Level I Certification upon hire in this position.
  • Required to work on-call as needed.
Minimum Lead/Supervisory or Management Experience:
  • None.
